I wanted to share this event with all SAUers. Reversing at night out the front of my house, without a care in the world and was greeted by the soft grind of concrete and alloy rim.

Boy I'm glad it was a hire car :) Sorry 'bout that Mr Hertz.

Looks like you need to pimp out your car with some curb feelers.

LoL

I ACTUALLY saw those on cars in the US.

Yes, they were purple with 22inch chrome wheels and black drivers.

how the hell do those curb feeler things work?

and thats some nasty damage....what happened

Basically they attach them to the car, so that they stick out further than your rims.

That way, if you get close to the kerb, you'll hear them scrape.

They look terrible though, but with the size of the rims they have in the US, they are well warranted.

A light truck did a U-turn in front of my wife at point blank range, turning from her left to right. She swerved to avoid but had oncoming traffic doing 100kmh. Shot the gap, the truck drove into the pax door, car spun off the road, down an embankment, rolled, rolled again and came to rest on the other side of the embankment.

Wife, mum, and our two kids are ok, amazingly. Just seatbelt aches and pains.

^ similar thing happened to me although at slower speed.

Old lady changed lanes on a roundabout while I was right next to her. Side swiped my back 1/4.

As if that wasn't bad enough, while at first she admitted fault, when I tried to get money out of her she said all sorts of things like - the quotes are too high, i'm in the middle of another insurance dispute can you wait a few months. Eventually she realised I wasn't going away and accused me of being on drugs or alcohol at the time. It was 10 am on a weekday.

Finally I threatened legal action and sure enough she made contact with her insurance company quick smart.

(Sorry for going a bit off topic, felt the need to whinge to someone)

I reckon we should all get some of those curb feelers, but instead set them up so if someone tries to merge into your lane with out looking they'll be sure to know you're there quick smart!

I got my first gravel rash the other day too, but my rims are white so with a bit of touch up paint it was all sorted. The incident caused me a flat tyre as well; apparantely low profile tyres don't like curbs too much!

And yep, been through all the buffing/bog jokes too ;)

Hey I know of a 2002 Liberty going for cheap. One owner. Comes with glass fragments throughout interior. Runs and drives well. Grade 3.5

No major accident history? Excellent condition for it's age. Bad luck Mark. Hope it all get's sorted out for you.

My stock rims are full of gutter rash.. the previous owners obviously couldnt park for crap, not to mention all the marks on the rear bar.

    • Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it. Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.
    • My apologies, I stand corrected. Thanks for registering to mention this! And thank you for actually reaching out to the council to clarify. This is the sensible thing to do and the opposite of what I was alluding you were doing. I may have seen too much outrage and hate being fueled on the internet and it has made me a somewhat cynical old man. Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are real people behind websites and accounts. In my defence, CarExpert and CarExplore do read quite similarly at a glance. I shall try and do better in the future. (Please stick around to get the latest scoops on dealing with old Nissan shitboxes )
    • Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper. Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?
    • Hey Daniel, sorry to hear that and thanks for posting up for us at a really hard time I only knew SmoothLine through the forums, we never met as we are based in different states, but when he was most active on here he was quite a while back so not many of the current crowd might remember him. I am pretty sure he was active in the Queensland SQU club but that is defunct now too (times are changing and we are all getting older). Farewell SmoothLine!
    • Turns out depending on whether the car was equipped with TCS or not there are different signals coming to the dash, meaning there are different speedo clusters.  Wired in a speedo calibrator box from aliexpress and now works fine.
