vic roads wouldnt give a shit if the kms were wound back...

tracid, i know they'll tell you if the car has ever been declared a "repairable write off" and things like that (which can still be fine, just need a VIV certificate etc) but they wont tell you what happened to it that it was deemed a repairable write off...

if i buy a car from some 1 that says he bought it through a finance company is the finance company allowed to take the car off me cause the previous owner didnt pay off his debt?

is it safe to buy a car that is still on finance?

The car is owned by the finance company until they say it's not, usually you're not even allowed to sell the car if it's under mortgage without asking permission from the finance company. I believe some sort of arrangement must be reached where your money goes directly to the finance company.

OK another question, im currently looking at a car in NSW, i understand they dont need road worthies when selling cars, does that mean when i buy the car i need to get the road worthy done here in VIC?

yes, any interstate car will need a vic roadworthy certificate to be registered in vic. depending on the car/circumstances, you may or may not have to take it to vicroads for an inspection

Interstate vehicle registration

oh wait sorry i now see that if your registering it in same name then roadworthy isnt required, though if your registering it in different name it is required

so to sum it up the seller from NSW gets his transfer papers from RTA, we both sign it, i drive the car back from NSW, get a roadworthy here in VIC then take it to VIC roads?

the only way you can legally sell a car in victoria WITHOUT a RWC, is if its NOT registered. if its not registered, the buyer will obviously have to re register it, and to answer your question, thats where it would be put in his name...but it would be out of the sellers name once he/she has cancelled their rego.

that should be all you'd have to do...you'll probably need an unregistered vehicle permit to drive it home from NSW too....you can get a 2 week permit for about $50

on the VIC roads website it says u can drive the car directly to the place of registry without having to pay anything. This guy from NSW thats selling his car says that the car would still be registered under NSW plates and then when i bring it into VIC roads i need to put on VIC plates.

Now does any1 know if i get a refund on the NSW plate registration? Can any 1 link me cause i cant find it on VIC roads website.

unless it was transferred into your name already, he'd get any refund on the NSW plates....but if you're buying it registered, i'd say you'd have to transfer it to your name while you're still in NSW, then drive it home, then cancel it for the refund etc...

Dont give them the car untill the cheque clears or get THEM to do a rush clearance.

ok ive just sold my NA supra this morning and i got paid with a bank cheque, now how soon can i get a rush clearance done on it?

its a bank cheque, so it will clear.

I'd think that only the guy that gave u the cheque could get a rush clearance...shouldnt take too long normally though

I would have thought that Vicroads would care about K's being wound back.

Like in rego forms you have to write down the car's millage. So say on my initail rego form I wrote down 150,000k's.. now say I wind the clock back to 80K and sell it, and when the next person writes 80k's on the form... it will show up on the database won't it??

another question

do i have to hand in my VIC plates to get a car unregistered in VIC cause the guy has left for Darwin with my NA already with the plates still on the car

pretty sure you'll need to get him to send the plates back to you...you cancel your rego, and hand the plates in for a refund of whatever was left on the rego :ermm:

    • It only looks tidy, as most of the stuff that was on the whole back wall, is now in the trailer to go to the tip, or has been shoved in my 2.2x2.4m "Spare parts room", and now I can't get to anything in there Ha ha ha I could definitely do with a bit more space, but I'd just end up with your problems I'm going to enclose the car port beside the garage, and move a lot of stuff into it I think. OR... It will be setup as a fabrication area, and the main garage will have parts storage in it. I'm not sure yet... Need some pictures of that big shed you've got with the bikes and Skyline in
    • No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.
    • Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.
    • @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
