hi hr30

yeah i was really happy with it(the time), especially since car was in pretty poor shape brake & alignment wise, that was an r32 gtr at the QLD dutton rally. mindyou

the car has shitloads of power, it would be quicker now though so cant wait to go back, close ratio dog box & 6 pot ap's now!!  ;)

hope to meet up sometime, i will hopefully be at the track day on the 30th on Nov.

cheers Russell

Looks good Russel. Love the R34 wheels, and very jealous of your power - mine is basically standard from what I can tell, just with pods and exhaust and coilovers. I'll be concerntrating on suspension geometry before I worry about more power.

I might have to see if I can make it to this Nov 30 track day - I think I saw a thread about that in the QLD section. But I'm planning on running at the Bathurst Speed Weekend the following week, so I probably won't compete - just come and check out the cars and have a chat.

competing :D I ran there in 2003 in my 1200 and had a ball.

Its a 2 day event - Dec 3 and 4.

Saturday is the Conrod Supersprint - 2 cars at a time starting just before the dip in Conrod, through the Chase and Murray's corner onto the pit straight, finishing on the start/finish line. Good fun. You can even choose who you line up with if you want. Racing is permitted. Expect to top 240 before the Chase - you'd be faster with more power than my mild GTR.

Sunday is the Mountain Straight Hillclimb. I'm not sure on the start finish points for that because in '03 we did the Esses Hillclimb. But it will include part of mountain straight, the cutting and probably finish just before McPhillamy Pk which they use as a regroup area.

The track is so smooth and grippy its incredible. Nothing like anything we have here in SEQ. And its just a huge buzz running on parts of the track that you've grown up watching every year...

Bathurst Light Car Club for more info. There's not much on their Website about it, but give them a call or email. I think its $110 entry per day.

At this stage myself and a mate are towing our cars down there, and there's another 2 "maybes". The more the merrier if you can make it - feel free to join the convoy. We're planning on taking 2 days to drive down there - the Thurs and Friday. It can easily be done in 1 day, but this just allows some breathing room if someone gets a flat or whatever. And it will allow us to do some 'recce' of the track on Friday arvo ;) Probably drive straight through on the way home on Monday.

Great to hear guys we have a few SAU NSW guys heading up to Bathurst for the weekend too :D

The Supp Regs aren't out yet but I can post them when they arrive if you like.

Also, we will probably organise to stay somewhere together to make sure there is maximum beer and snoring, let us know if you guys want to stay in the same place.

cool! should be a good weekend. We haven't arranged accomodation yet, so yeah, let us know what your plans are. I'm assuming you guys are competing? I'll probably get my arse kicked, but it will be interesting to compare times with similar cars anyway.

hahah no don't worry we have a range of people and cars coming along we are all there to have fun :P

Russell, having a baby is an acceptable reason to miss an event but you can only use it once a year, OK?

Hey guys, there's another Come and Try day on tomorrow (Sunday). I'm going, and hopefully it won't rain this time!!!

If you see a black R34 hanging around (hopefully without any scrapes on it) come and say hi.

Track walk-around at 8.15 and I think runs start at 8.30 until about midday for us rookies.

Cheers!

Just got home from Mt Cotton. I had a great time. Not sure what my times were (I think one my earlier runs was a mid-54), but the quick guys were running 48s-49s or better. It's a very technical little track and quite intimidating. I took it pretty easy, the max speed I got up to was 3rd gear (briefly), 100 kmh. There is room for mistakes in some places but a couple of the crested corners coming down the hill into the hairpin have no room for error.

It would favour a lighter car. Eg I saw a N/A MX-5 on semi-slicks do a 53 with what appeared to be minimal modifications (I don't think it was a turbo). But the traction of a GT-R would help, and my car (GT-T, approx 240 rwkw) was pulling well up the hill where others were struggling.

The worst part was queueing up in a gravel carpark in the stinking hot weather. As the afternoon went on (I paid to enter the morning Come and Try session and the afternoon Test and Tune) the numbers thinned out though. I got 8 runs in between showing up at 8am and leaving at 3.30ish.

There was only one other Skyline there, an R33 GTSt, and a few WRXs and RX-7s, plus lots of weird funny stuff too, Volvos, Minis, crazy open-wheeled things etc.

I would definitely recommend it as it's not terrifying and it's pretty easy on your car. If you hung around later in the day you'd get quite a few more runs in too. I had a great time, though I'm a little sunburnt now...

A 48.7 second run in Danny's Escort. Video coming soon (once Google verifies it).

its a fun little track, hey? Sounds like you did pretty well for the first time there, especially if it was on normal street tyres with all that power! Its also pretty cheap motorsport, with entry for a hillclimb event about $66 last time I ran.

Might see you there during the year - I'm going to run the GTR in the series. Which reminds me, I must get the registration form in...

Hi aurace - yeah I saw your VR4. Did you take my mate Danny around for a run? He said your car felt pretty farkin' quick! :P

I had a great day, I think I've caught the bug... I'm itching to get back there with some semi-slick tyres on...

In the end my best time was a 52.63, so I have a goal to beat now... heheh
