depends, do u like driving a manual do you think they can be annoying in traffic ? or would u rather just whack it in drive and be on your mary way ???

its personal choice, drive both, see what u prefer and go from there. I prefer manual cars as i beleive u have a little more control over them, how they react etc ...

oh and they are just more fun

im deciding on a r34, wat should i buy?

the auto or manual...

manual seem to be heaps difference, dunno its very hard to decide, need ur guy's opinions

Manual.

As above, more fun, feels like you have more control and better resale value.

Also, buy a car already, your questions are getting annoying..... :O

people buy auto's for proper drags though i think thats bs unless u r building a proper off street drag car

dude go for the manual, a lot more fun and more control of your revs. i drive a manual car everyday and i never get sick of it even in peak hour traffic and then i drive my mums auto VT and it just sucks balls and doesnt respond aswell

i`ve been buying R34`s last couple of months and come to this conclusion,if you MUST have a manual..be prepared for 4-5k difference and don`t get fussy on colour etc.there is 10 or more auto`s available for every manual, most are in better condition ,lower milage etc..all my cars are manuals...but everytime i visit sydney...50 sets of traffic lights from hornsby to camden..i`m over the whole clutch thing pretty quick

Manual for sure mate.

Youll save having to change your brake pads as often with downshifting to slow down & lower your speed, although you'll have the clutch to worry about. But providing to you dont treat the clutch like a ratbag you should have no problems with it slipping for quite a long time... the standard clutch in my R33 lasted 114,000K's, providing that i bought the car with 70,000 on the odometer. Was a beauty of an excuse to chuck a ceramic 6 puck X-tremer in!

Then again, you're gonna own a turbo skyline, manual... > who wouldnt treat it like a ratbag :-D

I have an auto R34.

I can control when shifts occur, I can downshift coming to traffic lights.

It's called tiptronic, once you get used to it the steering wheel shifts it

becomes second nature. Not as fast as manual at shifting but much better

than standard auto.

Not trying to say that its better than manual cos it isn't. But tiptronic does

provide me with the ability to chose when i change up or down gears.

It's also good having the choice to swing into standard auto when in

traffic.

This and the fact that I paid $6k less than the same car in a manual, and

that I got one in possibly better condition for that $6k less, keeps me

happy with my choice.

Test drive both.

well said ...tiptronic is a good compromise..and the 6k thing is spot on

I am also going to say that tiptronic auto is not that bad for an R34, having one myself I have not been disappointed yet. Sure the arguement lies that manuals get more power, control and 'fun' but I think the tiptronic is not very far off.

The shifting arguement is void with tiptronics as they can do pretty much the same thing - except launches. I guess an extra bonus to tiptronic is that they can downshift a hell of a lot faster than manuals.

As zymotic said, it's bliss knowing that you can choose between lazy mode and semi lazy mode! Comes in handy when the girlfriend is there :(

Heel-toe isn't needed in today's cars.

But it keeps the car well balanced when changing gears + breaking.

Most useful when entering a corner.

Smart ass? I think you took it wrong way.

It's just another advantage of a manual.

Better beef up your auto boxes if you're gonna be chasing power.

    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
    • Yeeeppp, been following a lot of the testing on the latest Xona stuff and there are some mental results.  He also went over 1000hp @ 4 hubs on his Mainline with a XRE6364S (63mm) which was also well into the 20psi range before 4000rpm on a 2.5. Crazy stuff. Fwiw the XRE5964S is basically the modern equivalent of their old HTA3582 - would drive nicely enough on an RB25 or 26, but proven capable of a huge amount of power if you want to spicy with rpm tho even at sane boost levels will make stout numbers
    • The axels in my R33 seem tired, and have a bit of play in them. I cannot find any new of course, not interested in buying used, but I am looking to see if anyone can identify some cross compatible axles. In the states I have seen suggested for S chassis the J30 axles, however for the skyline (as best I can tell) the lengths are about an inch off (2.5cm) on both sides. R33 my measure L 22" R 24.5" GPT L 22.5" 24.25" J30 L 23.5" 25.5"  so shaft length is probably an inch wider. Not sure if someone has another still remanufactured option besides the J30. I figured worst case I can buy a pair tear them down and swap the center shaft. My other option was reaching out to GSP to see if they cannot piece together a set, since the axle stubs are still manufactured, I wouldn't think it be that hard to find a shaft or make a shaft work.
