Shaft Play

Just like to know if your turbo has a bit shaftplay.....can you hear it when giving it a hit ?

At the moment, running on 0.6bar of boost for daily driving its ok.

When I raise it to 0.85 bar for a bit of fun I can hear a constant rattling noise when approaching redline in second gear.....

so basically...is my turbo on its last leg ??

Rattling, are your sure the cars not pinging/detonating?

I've had a half dead turbo on my car, it used to make a zing noise on boost, quite nasty sounding. The compressor wheel was ever so slightly touching the housing as it sucked forward.

thats what i was thinking.

seeing that the turbo would be on full boost before nearing the redline, it should make the noise whenever its on full boost. i would say it is noise from the engine, not the turbo.

well it only happens on higher boost levels and doesnt happen all the time so thats why I thought it was coming from the turbo itself and not the engine.

At first I thought it was pinging/detonation but then I checked my PFC hand controller and knock was 20.....

getting it checked out this week......just hope its nothing major.
