Just got some more bits for my turbo upgrade and was wondering what power will this baby make ? details are

RB30DET with cast pistons and vvt

Nismo 740cc injectors

Power FC

Sard FPR

HKS Exaust

AVO Stage 2 intercooler

XTR GT3540 .82 ???HP BB turbocharger with Tial 38mm ex gate

Cheapie SS top mount exaust manifold

Stock inlet manifold

Walbro 550hp intank pump

Can you run a bleed valve on a Tial wastegate???

anyway what kinda power is this good for ? the old turbo setup made 230 rwkw on 10psi with standard injectors maxed out

yeah, you will need a bigger pump, i maxed out the crappy walbro @ 260-270rwkw and there was nothing left in it.

AFR's were on the border of going south. Piece of junk IMO.

You'll be able to run it with the stock AFM, it'll be maxed for ages, but you can keep going even if its maxed, its just not very safe.

I would advise against it.

What pistons you using?

And a bleeder will be fine, i ran a bleeder of my gate the whole time.

Depending on what PSI you want to run, get the closest gate spring you can to your target PSI, it'll make the whole setup a lot nicer

stocker pistons?

change the turbo to something smaller then, better response dude!

550hp or something, itll come on stupidly early and make the car a much faster streeter

GT35 is a tad large for a stocker motor like that.

My 20 cents worth..........

The secrets to getting a standard internals RB30DET to survive are;

A. no more than 475 bhp (290 rwkw)

B. no more than 1.1 bar of boost

C. no more than 7,000 rpm

D. avoid detonation (nothing more than 10 on the PFC scale)

E. tuning, tuning, tuning

1. You are running a 700 bhp turbo on an engine that won't handle more than 475 bhp (~290 rwkw) for very long. In order to keep the engine alive for any length of time you are going to be using less than half of its airflow capablity. At the same time you are puting up with 700 bhp worth of lag

2. You are running a turbo that doesn't get efficient until it is making 1.3 bar on an engine that won't handle more than 1.1 bar for very long. In order to keep the engine alive for any length of time you are going to be using it at very low efficiencies. At the same time you are puting up with a large turbo (airflow capable) worth of lag

3. You are running a turbo that doesn't generate efficient airflow until 6,000 rpm on engine that shouldn't be rev'd over 7,000 rpm very often. That's a 1,000 rpm powr band, that means on the 1st to 2nd gear change you will have to wait for 2,000 rpm before it gets into stride again.

4. If your mate told you he was geting 2.2 bar (that's full boost on a GT3540) at 3,500 rpm on a 1J he was eitther lying or dreaming.

5. You will need an AFM upgrade, the RB25AFM will get to 5.1 volts around 225 rwkw, with careful tuning you could stretch to 245 rwkw. But 290 rwkw is way beyond stretch and isn't safe. The airflow characteristics of the GT3540 will change after the RB25AFM reaches 5.1 volts. It's time for a Z32 AFM upgrade.

6. Are you running the pump on 12 volts or 13.8 volts? ie; do you have a relay and dedicated wiring back to the battery for the fuel pump or are you still using the standard wiring. If you are getting 13.8 volts at the fuel pump it will be OK for 300 rwkw at 1 bar boost. If you run more boost than that than the fuewl pump flow rate slows down quite dramatically.

:O cheers :)

thats interesting you say that as ive been told that i should go a bigger turbo again because this one is too small for my car - they said i should go the 1.06 rear housing instead of the .82 rear that i have.

Will look into this. What rpm will boost come on with this turbo with a 3 litre with .82 housing then ?

Sorry my mistake -- the turbo would be a 700hp unit with the 1.06 rear ? but this one has the .82 which takes it down to 550 600hp ?

My mate with the 1j that sold me this turbo said he definatly would get close to 2 bar on this turbo by 4000rpm no worries with the .82 rear. does that sound right ?

I got a dyno vid of his 1j doing 406rwkw on 28psi with this turbo with a stokers bottom end

Also the pump is wired using the standard wiring. Have not changed it at all. Doesnt the pump get more voltage when you get onto the gas anyway ? or do you have to directly wire it to a relay and power it directly to the battery?

dont listen to your mate :)

RB30det, 1jz - two different motors in terms of what they will/wont do etc

Why live with 3500rpm when you could have it 3000rpm or even less with a 500-550hp snail?

Because the next stage for mods would be Forgies / Cams / Rods and much more boost.

This turbo has the .82 housing so its not the 700hp version of the GT3540 right ? wouldnt the 1.06 be the 700hp version ?

    • @soviet_merlin Thanks mate!  Nothing too major but will hold me up for a while. I've got lymphomas to get taken off the back of my neck and the middle of my spine which always conjures scary thoughts!  It sounds worse than it is. Yeah great, conjuring more rabbit hole deepening , just what I need! 🤣
    • I'd argue the F50 kit I got is very good value. For ~2k I got the calipers (refurbed condition), adapters, pads, brake lines, rotors, and top hats. I think you'd be pretty hard to get Evo/GTR/350z brembos + the additional hardware for similar money. Used market for a pair of front calipers alone I've seen tend to run anywhere from $1500-2000 depending on condition.    That said, something like a GTR or 350z brembo is a lot easier to adapt to the Silvia.
    • Is there a significant price difference between the Evo/gtr/350z brembos vs the F50? Looks amazing.
    • I was actually being a tightarse at the time LOL... My OCD is tickling me into running a 2nd 8AN Teflon hose all the way down and removing the 2x OEM hardlines. My other side of my brain is telling me to run 2x hardlines front to back (also acts as a fuel cooler, so win win).
    • As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had some trouble with the Silvia's brakes dragging back in 2023. I managed to sort it out then, but the same problem came back to bite me late last year. Just take a look at the picture – I had a feeling the handbrake was acting up again, and I was right. Anyway, I'd been wanting to upgrade to bigger brakes for a while. Not that the Silvia's brakes were bad, but it was more of a "want" than a "need", you know? It was funny, though – at the time, I couldn't find any Evo Brembos, 350Z Brembos, or GTR Brembos for a decent price (of course, tons of them popped up online after I already bought my kit!). I ended up going with an F50 Brembo kit, which came with adapters, brake lines, 330mm rotors, and top hats. The F50 Brembo caliper was used in a few other cars too, like the FPV. I also decided this was the perfect opportunity to ditch the Silvia's ridiculous rear brakes and that awful handbrake (some of you were definitely right about that!). I picked up some R33 calipers and all the necessary bits – rear drums, backing plates, and new hardware to refurbish the calipers. Of course, it wouldn't be a project without a few hiccups. Turns out the brake master cylinder was playing up and basically (to put it simply) keeping the brakes engaged. I had it overhauled, and after some adjustments, everything was working again. The whole process took a while, as you can imagine. To top it off, the front right wheel bearings were shot and needed replacing too. This is a rare occasion where I'm posting an update while it's all still fresh! These pictures were taken just this afternoon.
