I won't need a bigger turbo to get to 200rwkw don't you worry about that

hmm, coincidence, i have just spent half the night pulling apart half my engine o check, clean and re-gap the plugs. On the r34 standard gap is 1.0 mm. The current plugs in there are NGK-R PFR6G - 11. Does anyone know which plug this is?

They looked like they were put in somewhere in the last 2-3 months [just before i bought the car] but i dont know if these are just copper ones or not? Or if they are the right heat rating [is it the 6 or 11  Any help on this would be good.

I have re-gapped them to approx 0.8 > 0.85mm as the car seems to run a bit rich [stock ecu / car / etc]. I am not sure if the 34 should be the same as r33 spark plugs either. Damn finding info on the 34 is a nightmare atm

Thanks guys...:( [sorry about the thesis]

NGK-R PFR6G - 11

That is NGK's part number code (as you know)... This is how you interpret it:

NGK - Manufacturer

PFR - Platinum Spark Plug

6G - Heat Range 6

11 - 1.1mm Gap.

I use to think that the R34 & R33 RB25DET's used the same heat range plug standard (6's) It turns out that the R33 engine has a 5 heat range standard & R34 a 6!

Both are a 1.0-1.1mm gap factory.

you are still wasting your money, trust me! Just go and spend $3 per plug on coppers. They are much better for the line, as platimuns dont do jack for performance (in fact, in some cases they were worse), and you will need to change them before you know it (b/c of line running so rich!!!

Search around these forums on this. It has been brought up many times, and you can find heaps on good info on this! Always do that before asking a question, as many subjects raised have been covered many times....

I was lucky coz my partner was selling a brand new Autronic CDI for $750 which was cool to match my Autronic ECU. Usually I think the CDI is about the $900 mark retail and then you need it installed. The spark is HUGE!!!! I recommend a CDI to anyone who wants to run high levels of boost.

I'm now leaning towards the copper plugs coz from what I've been told and researched, copper is a more conductive material than platinum or iridium. The only problem is that you have to change your plugs more often.

What kind of tuning do you need? Give us a call at the factory on 9512 7591 and ask to speak to Gerald or Nigel. They should be able to either help you with the tuning or point you in the right direction.

so it doesn't matter if i run copper/platinum/iridium, as long as it's a 7 plug?

what's a CDI worth these days leewah?

I do have a shit cold start at the moment as the car needs a tune (got HKS gear... no one in melbourne to tune it!). So i'll get new plugs to go in once it's tuned

You guys did my Twin Plate OS Giken Clutch... remember, i've got all the HKS computer gear (PFC-FCON, FCONV, VPC).

I'm still looking for the software, which i think i'm gonna be hard pressed to find.

How often should you change the copper plugs and which model number? BCPR7E, is that the copper NGK's with a heat range of 7? or should i get 6... cos the car isn't really given a bootfull all the time, it's a daily driver. So if i get a 7 i don't want the plugs to foul up just from putting around (would a good full noise run clean them or do you have to do a couple of hard runs?)

Andrew

Ahh yes, I remember being told bout all the gear in your car. Good luck finding a tuner in Melb. Maybe if you asked BD4s, they could help you in some way. They are the official distributor of HKS in Aust.

Because I've had spark issues recently before the CDI, I went through about 3 sets in 4 months coz of fouling the plugs. Fouling copper plugs was a much cheaper option than platinums. I reckon most people around here would use either the 6 or 7. If your not going to be driving hard that often, I would say the 6 would be a better option. Also the 6 would give a better cold start.

Cleaning the plugs is simply a case of hammering the car stupid for bout 5 mins. That should clean all the charred stuff off. If that fails, WD40 and sandpaper does wonders. On the other hand, $3 for coppers plugs may save you all the time and effort :D

yeah i've spoken to BD4's... they basically just said "nup, we are the only ones that do HKS tuning". I've been given a name of a guy who does performance car tuning around SE Asia, so hopefully he has all the software. The hard thing will be catching him when he's in Australia!

I think the $3 option is better than the effort of cleaning them!!! Probably takes about about 15-30min to clean them all properly, i'd rather chuck in some brand newies and save the hassle!
