Ok SA guys!

being new back here I was hoping to find some info/advice on a problem Im having...

I had an AFR check done today at Tilbrooks, and also was curious to find out the base timing as it should be 20 deg as set by CRD...( I had marked the CAS on removing it to paint the cam covers and the timing belt covers...)

so on checking it, it read 16-17deg not 20 and that was at full advance (and the same place ir very close to where it was before.)

and the car also feels a little sluggish, in the higher RPM....

reason for the AFR check was 2 fold as I have recently fitted a new exhaust and it flows a lot more....

so what I asking or needing to find out is :-

does anyone here know where I can back to back another CAS from the RB26 and check the timing with this....

my thinking, and talking with Jim @ CRD is that the CAS has started to die, and I need to be able to see that is the case before getting a new one at $$$$$

thanks :P

You probably had no one answer you as we were all down the dyno day held @ Boostworx. ;)

Some nice cars there making some seriously ear to ear grin power.

Definitely sounds like a dud cas.

Either that or who ever replaced the cam belt buggered up the cam timing.

Base timing should be 15degrees.

On most nissans you have to actually unplug the TPS harness (from the unit itself) and then the ECU will revert to base timing. I'd be looking into that... (This is because most ECUs runs different timing at idle than base)

ok well I have a power FC and I dont think that would do it mate :P

Im sure it is 20 deg... as that is what it was set at from CRD.... and from SK info also....

so basically anyone know who has a GTR RB26 CAS? and a timing light that is accurate ?

cheers....

in the loom that comes out of the ignition module theres a white wire ,at the back of the cylinder head.Connect a timing light to this & confirm your timing is correct, also try the timing light clip both ways as it will give a false reading one way.or go off the white wire that goes to no.1 coil pack.

also pull no.1 plug get it to TDC on the power stroke with a dial indicator & check that the timing mark on the crank pulley is lining up with the dash on the cover.should line up with the 0 deg mark

this will confirm that 1 base timing is 20deg & 2 that the timing light indication is correct. B)

yep that will help if the first check is not correct.....

basically the car has been set up by CRD in front of me with 20 deg.... we are not getting it now...

so I need to beg borrow or steal a CAS for the R32 GTR and check the timing back to back....

this is were someone in SA might be able to help with info....

I thought ;)
