Hi Guyz,

Currently getting some mods done on my R32 GTS-t and I am a bit concerned about what type of power I should expect at the wheels (in KW). The mods are as follows:

* HKS Type S Intercooler

* 650cc SARD injectors

* Garrett 30/37R Ball Bearing

* Tomei Poncam Cams

* Apexi Power FC (Re- Tuned)

* AVC-R Electronic Boost Controller

* Top Mount Manifold

* HKS Air Pod

* Z32 Air Flow Meter

* 38mm External Wastegate

I am hoping to get at least 240+ KW at the wheels. Is this a big ask??? Have any of you guys ever seen a RB20DET with these type of mods, if so what type of power did it get at the wheels???

Looking forward to hearing back from you guys ;)).

Regards

Bruno

Welcome to SAU . It will make that power easy, probably only need 16psi to do it.

A few good RB20 threads around. Main thinh is with a std motor thats probably got a few kms on it, and is over 13 years old is the tuning and maintenance (oil & fluid)

It will be reliably make that power, but make sure the tune is spot on.

Hey Roy,

Thanks for the post. It amkes me feel better to hear your confidence with the mods I am having done aiming for 240+ at the wheels. One thing I didn't mention is that I also have a intank Walbro 500hp hi pressure feul pump and an adjustable fuel reg.

At the end of this stage of mods if I have 240+ at the wheels and am in the 12's I will be very happy.

Regards

Bruno

Well im running a slightly smaller plain bearing turbo making 230rwkws. And the thing is pretty good fun, and it has snuck into the 12s with a mph that indicates that a low 12 is achievable if i suck down a can of tuffen up and launch the thing properly:)

Thats one thing to remember, run good gearbox fluid. PPl rate redline shockproof, i run and rate Castrol. The gearboxes dont have a great reputation, but mine is still going strong with 180,000 under its belt and plenty of use at tracks so just take it easy on the shifts and it shouls last

Hey Guyz,

As promised I am coming back to you with the dyno results on the upgrade to my RB20DET. I had originally tuned my car on a dyno dynamics dyno and got 176kwrws (before I got these mods done). At the time I only had the HKS type S intercooler, the Apexi AVC-R electronic boost controller and the HKS air filter and was running 1 bar boost.

This time round the car was tune on a Mainline Dyno which I was told it actually reports less power at the wheel because of the bigger rollers that the tyres have to spin. I have the boost controller set on 2 different settings, the everyday setting running 1 bar of boost and the drag setting running 1.3 bar of boost. The boost seems to be kicking in at 4000rpm (with the help of the Tomei cams), I may consider getting cam gears to try reduce the lag as doing this isn't a costly exercise.

Results:

Every day boost setting 1 bar

On the everyday setting running 1 bar I was able to get 194kwrws with 498MN of tourque.

Drag setting 1.3 bar (peaking at 1.4 bar)

On this setting I was able to get 237 kwrws with 625nm of tourque.

I am also going to run the car on the original dyno I had tuned it on (the Dyno Dynamics Dyno) to see if there is much difference between the 2 dynos.

I am also yet to run the car down the qtr to see what time she pulls and am hoping to try get into the 12's with this setup.

I am also selling the following parts due to the upgrade:

* R32 GTS-t injectors full set

* Stock RB20DET Manifold

* Pair of RB20DET Cams

* HKS Air Pod (use replace because the HKS would fit my engine bay because of the mods)

* Unused Adjustable fuel reg (brand new)

I have also attached some picture of the upgrade for those of you who are interested.

Once again guys thankyou for all you advice and if anyone has any question about the mods done plz dont hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Bruno

Your tuner is crap!

I am getting 210rwkw on standard injectors, standard AFM and standard remapped ECU.

With the mods you have listed at the top your power output should be EASILY over 280rwkw.

Hey Guys,

Thanx for the comments. 3lit3 where was it you got you car tuned and secondly what type of dyno was it? Was it a Dyno Dynamics? I respect you comments but this are very important factors and finally we could have gotten alot more power out of that turbo but had to be carful as the car is still running stock internals. I will say one thing though, Bel Garage done a great job not only on my car but allot of are performance cars out their and please keep in mind different dyno's will always give different reads as i mention on the post above. But hey if you are a sydney sider like myself maybe we should just have a run down the creek and see how good our tuners really are :mellow: .

Nathan_G1 yeah it is laggy my friend thats why I may investigate the option of changing my cam gears.

Matt hows doing bud. I got the turbo fairly cheap as it was a part of the overall package (I think I paid $1900-$2000 for it). The turbo was supplied to me from Bel Garage.

What type of dyno was your car tuned on and who tuned it?

with 210rwkw your injectors would be maxing out, also what turbo you running stock aswell?? you done cams or anything?

Line 'em up and let the driving do the talking :mellow:

Bruno great work on your car, results look fair, you gotta take me for a spin one day. :blink: woot woot.

Hey Jago,

Nah the engine was stock. The only mods I had back then was the Apexi Power FC, the boost controller and the HKS intercooler. Please also keep in mind that this was a reading on a dyno Dynamics Dyno that do had the reputation of spitting out higher figures as they have smaller rollers that are easier for the tires to spin.

ITZFUN, thanx for the reply bud and yeah I guess those are my questions as well to 3lit3. And bud as I said to Morgs same goes to you bud. We should get together for a cruise or something.

Thanx once again lads

If i can offer one bit of advice it would be to ditch the stock afm and get a z32. Unless you've changed it since you took the engine bay picture.

I'm partially colour blind but that looks like a green sticker which is rb20/25, orange is z32. Also the plug looks like the gray 20/25 plug.

Cam gears shouldn't be needed with poncams as they are optomised to be a drop in cam.

If you are getting full boost by 4k then i would be happy with the peak power figure. It would be worthwhile getting a run on a dyno dynamics dyno though so you have a figure comparable with everyone elses.
