ah really? you make me happy dougboy

so they can weld this little locator thing back on or something?

Tighe Cams - they in brissie? i will try find em in yellow pages....

thanks v much

mick

All you need to do is imagine where the half-moon bit sits inside the front of the cam. Then visualise where the matching one inside the CAS has to sit to align with it.

The CAS will still work because they also mesh on a spline setup.

ah ok i see

i thought it was like the half moon type thing that gripped and turned it.

ok i have just had a shower and cleaned up, so i will have a look this afternoon after lunch.

thansk very much, now i see what T04R was saying to me in the other thread.

thansk guys

will let you know how it goes.

thankyou

thats exactly it... my 33 had the same problem..... lined it up where it should be.. and never gave me any dramas...

cool. poncams have 9.15 mm lift. and iether 260 or 252.degrees

procams have longer duration and more lift. if your head has been machined around the buckets for hi-lift cams its a procam. if it hasnt its a poncam.

they all look like factory cams.(they use factory cast blanks and machine them to there profile.)

except for a part number stamped in the back of them.

as far as im aware tomei dont do a 264.

they do 252.260.270.280.290

there procam range has 3 levals of lift in the 260.( 9.15. poncam),10.25,10.80)

the 10.25 and 10.8mm ones use a 30mm base circle on the cam.

get out the virniers and mesure the lobe size.

thanks for the info on the cams t04gtr. i will inveestigate more.

mine defo have stamped 264 on the end. not sure they are tomei tho they was sposed to be.

will check that out soon...

Regards the prob, thanks for the advice - have the CAS back on and started the car, lined up the splines and off i went.

car doesnt feel 100%, but ive prolly stuffed up the timing....

so will get into a garage and have em reset it.

thanks v much

well im a total spanker.

i have never had crank angle sensor off before. and didnt really realise there was this locator thing. just thought it was splined.

And i was re-fitting it it was tuff to go in. (obviously i didnt re-align it)

And i thought it was just tuf going through the seal thing around the hole on the cam gears cover. so i rubber hammerd it in with two hits. bam straight in.... so obviously schnap.

:P

what a spanker.

mick

well the cas is on atm and the car appears to run fine.

the way i see it the half moon lip thisng is just a locator anyway???

all the load so to speak is on the splines?

anyway, will talk to the people in the know, and will buy a new bloody camshaft if i have too! hehehe

i always make expensive mistakes! clown

WTF?!    One thing I'm pretty sure I justifiably pride myself on is knowing that everyone will have things they can teach you, and you're always going to find out that something you think you know turns out wrong - you just don't know what it is until you get there.   Just the bursting enthusiasm that comes with ADHD when you hit something that gives you dopamine dumps can come across like you think everyone else is wrong or don't matter. But yeah, I'm a software engineer by trade and also do tuning in weekends and 100% have long had a reputation for  quickly making connections when resolving problems or forming solutions that I've sometimes had to take people form a long walk from start to end to explain how I ended up where I did when it's seemed "too simple" when I've stated my initial case, and had the "WTF" type reaction when they've realised how much was actually considered haha.   My reward is that I get all the curly problems thrown at me.
    • Wives never seem to find things funny. Especially when they're trying to sleep, and you've found the new funniest thing ever. I've never seen someone be able to get try and be cranky with me, while they're holding back fits of laughter... 😛   Also, I tell mine it's payback anyway. She has BiPolar. So the household can get quite emotionally wild at times 😛
    • I'm not up to date on the latest, but for basic modifications like pod filter, lower springs etc you can get a modification permit at the time of inspection.  For more serious modifications you will need engineering.  Intercoolers used to fall into the mod permit rule but its been a long while since i looked it up.   Either way you will be able to get it registered, just a case of $300 vs $3k .
    • Hi everyone! I’m the new owner of a 1996 R33 GTS-T, I’ve purchased this car over from Queensland and brought it to Western Australia and I’ve found that there is a hole cut out in the engine bay for the FMIC that enters into the wheel well (fender liners are in the boot). For anyone that has had to get their car over the PITS here, will this be a major issue?
    • Yeah I've spotted this one too, whenever it's lotto superdraw week and I'm browsing car sales dot com for my new ride They must be dreaming, maybe it's worth 150k for the link to Brock?
