Bad Fuel Economy

Hey guys,

i have a small problem at the moment with my cars fuel eating habits. ever since ive had the new upgrades, i would be lucky to get say about 220kms from a full tank......

i have noticed that it spits out a little black smoke when you give it a hit as in high in the rev range, but i just figured it is running a little rich. there is also a petrol smell, also it back fires a lot more.....

ok im just wondering peoples thoughts on this, and if i should invest in another tune, any ideas on how much a small and simple tune like that would cost????

cheers

Mass

yeh i figured that it maybe things like that, but the thing is i have a new o2 sensor, new fuel reg, and i just had it tuned, thats why i was thinking its prob the tune...

the reason for this thread is i was after some thoughts/comments from those who have similar mods to me, and how their fuel economy is, in other words what i should be expecting..

Better fuel economy then what your getting!!!

If its recently been tuned maybe speak to the tuner and get them to check it out. Backfiring, popping & black smoke are all tell tail sign of it running rich. There might be other factors to consider - did this suddenly happen or was this straight after your tune.

Something like your O2 Sensor, Airflow meter, Fuel Reg, vacuum leak, clogged injectors could be having an effect.

If straight after your tune - speak with them as a re-tune is needed or the fault has to be found before this can be sorted.

yeh it was after the tune.. i can eliminate all those factors, as i have all the following new:

Air Flow Meter, 550cc injectors, Fuel Reg, o2 sensor, and new vacuum lines....

i think i have to speak to the tuner, it does pop and crackle a lot...

You might have 250rwkw but this dosen't mean you should have bad economy.

If everything is working, correct installation, a good tune and good driver behaviour your fuel economy should be good, I believe 400+ km at least, some people I'm sure are getting alot more or a bit less.

Take it back to where you got it tuned.

Give them the chance to help you, hopefully its a simple problem and they might be more then happy to help. I might be too optimistic but I hope they don't want one of the cars they have tuned runing like that.

If not, then you can cross that bridge when it comes but I'm sure there are some reputable tuners that will get it right.

Your car runs as good as the tuner that tunes it!!

put a full tank in and dont hit it once :D

like, really concentrate or let your mrs/mum drive it for a week and see what they get.

For ages i could neve get over 300, stuck the mrs (at the time) in the car... 440 right off the first tank. Ive never beaten it yet!

    • Hi all,   I have been a member here for years and am back to owning an R35.  It's my car and thought members of the community might enjoy sharing my journey.  I am definitely here to join the conversation.  If sharing this content isn't appropriate or it belongs somewhere else, I am happy to have it deleted or moved...
    • Data looks rock solid? I'm assuming you jabbed the throttle twice OR once? the TPS voltage moves up and down twice, however you've mentioned you did it once.
    • Having not watched the videos, I'm unsure, but this may be better suited to the importing thread?
    • Update on this situation: (Forgot to put in my previous post that I bought another brand new pressure gauge and fuel shows the same 50psi) I've deleted all the aftermarket immobilizers and turbo timer shyt and placed all factory wiring back to normal. The problem is still the same and nothing changed, but atleast it's a bit more tidier under the steering wheel. I've also siphoned out all the old fuel and then poured new batch of BP98 fuel (about 15L) into the tank. Nothing changed. Still the same idle. I also changed out the MAP vac line with a new one and, still the same.  So 2 days ago, I thought fk it. I'll just change out the fuel rail and injectors with another set that I know worked well in my brother's R34 a while back. That other fuel rail has the exact same Xspurt 640cc as what I have right now. So I changed it out to that other fuel rail and injectors (new O-rings) and injector harness. Put everything back together, started the engine, 464906286_1624569924763105_5179888796065901094_n.mp4   and yeah... still the same 50psi and idle problem. 🫠 I can also hear each of injector's solenoids running when I put a screw driver to it and have the other end to my ear. I might get a noid light just to confirm pulsasion but yeah, very strange that both fuel rails and injectors put out 50psi.  31-10-2024.csv I've attached it here. I started recording, then started the engine and let it idle with no throttle, then at the end I applied a little throttle and then stopped recording.    So, now idk. I'm going to see if swapping out the brand new R35 coils to my old splits fires will change anything. 🤷‍♂️
    • Hey mate, nice work on the car. Just a quick note, people generally don't like it when you use the forums to dump and run to advertise your YouTube content. If you're gonna stick around and join in the conversation then great, but if not this might not be the best place for you.
