Hey,

I had a small ding on my door and a tiny bit on my front panel from a hit and runner that I finally decided to get fixed. I took it to a panel shop close by and got a quote for $675 if I paid cash. I take the car in Monday morning and am assured I will have it for the weekend.

Friday 4:30 comes around and I get a call saying they have realised the colour is a 3 layer pearl job (the car is bayside blue) and it will take longer. They say I should have been quoted closer to 1500 and it will take till Monday.

They call Monday at 4:30 eight days after I took it in and say that it will be the $675.

I go and pick up my car just as the panel shop was closing and when I got home I notice that there is a drip at the bottom of the door, and also there is a tiny bit where the paint wasn’t done properly near the fold of the front panel where it meets the door.

At a glance it looks like a good job, but I really was expecting it to be a quality job as the place had all those banners saying there were approved by all the big insurance companies.

They also drove my car 2km when I specifically told them not to drive the car out of the business yard because I had a blown turbo gasket.

I am going to take it in tomorrow morning before my appointment at a performance workshop and see what they have to say.

Is it reasonable of me to expect a clean quality job? And for them to not drive my car around?

Cheers

It is 100% reasonable, just have a nice chat to them they will probably fix it up for you, if they refuse well you will have to fight it out.

i find that you usually have to stress the fact that you want a perfect job and you WILL be unsatisfied if anything is wrong before they start.

I would be pissed if they drove my car more than they had to, i would expect a couple of hundred metres at most when moving it around every day but not a few km..

when u say that they sed 675 cash, does that mean without a receipt? or did they give u one

if they did give u have a very good leg to stand on to get it redone properly

if not u may be fighting a battle

one thing i always do if i take my car somewhere is do somethin like unplug the ecu or set a rev limit... take out the afm or even the plug on the afm. stops they from driving it or doin anything u dont want them doin

Usually if you are nice about it they will fix it up for you. I've had cars back to panel shops and when they realise their error they are quick to fix it up for you if they value your business.

If you go back there and swear and cause a big fuss straight away theyre not going to want to help you.

One full week also isn't really that much when you're asking for a cash job. To give you a cheap cash price they put your car at the low end of their priorities list. Some guys on the forums have had 4 - 6 week waits for paint. This is doubly evident since they didnt even realise the paint would require more work until Friday arvo.

As for the driving around - thats kind of unecessary - but if they were having to move the car all week to on-street parking like a lot of busy paint shops do it couldve clocked up the 2k's just driving up and down the street they're on looking for free spots.

Went in this morning and they said they will redo it, really happy about that.

Seems like a bad way to run a business, could have just done it properly the first time.

I was given a reciept for the "cash job"

Because they said they would fix it up right away i decided not to mention the 2km on the clock. When I take it back I am going to write on a post-it note that I know the km and to not drive it out of the yard, and stick it on the dash.

man i hate these places that do lousy jobs, go back there and tell them to fix it up

i get places driving my car around and put excessive k's on it. i havnt really bothered in taking note of k's but next time i will and if they drive it im cracking the shits

2k's is a fair way to drive a car. i wouldnt expect them to have to move it that much and would be very sceptical about their resoning if they gave me one.

as for the shoddy work i would definetly be back there looking for some answers. you payed good money for a job that you expected to be well done and of top quality. i wouldnt expect any less
