hey,

I really really hate fog lights.

So many people have them on all the time and I can not work out why. You can lose 3 points and get a decent fine if the cops pull you over for it.

why do people bother?

i can't stand seeing cars with their wank lights on in the middle of a bright sunny day, or even in the middle of the night  .

you have headlights, unless it is amazingly foggy they are totally unnecessary.

to anyone who does drive with them on - they do not make you look cool.

the reason that people do it is because even though it is illegal, most police cars drive with em on too.

it really shits me that a cop can pull you over in an import for no reason at all, while they are blatantly breaking the road rules themselves at the same time <_<

grrr...

you guyz talking about yello fog lights or the white ones, i always have my fog lights on either when its near dark

1. because the sun shines in the on coming traffics eyes and they can see the cars easier if they have lights on

2. near dark because there not as bright as head lights and its not completely dark yet.

headlights are for seeing in the dark, fog lights are for seeing in the fog (which australia has very little).

please tell me how fog lights impress chicks??

chicks are ladies, not moths... they don't flock to the nearest bright light.

Its OK if theres rain or hard to see but what really shits me is the cars that have badly configured fog lihts, that is they point like high beams and dazzle every oncomming car, f**king idiots dont realise that fog lights meant to look at the ground NOT direct!

Whats worse is idiots driving with badly adjusted normal lights, they dont point at the road, they also point straight forward, those AU falcon taxis really shit me with theirs... whats worse still is f**kheads who drive with high beams and dont even realise or do it on purpose!!

*end of rage*

the law actually says that they arent illegal unless they "dazzle" other drivers....and im almost certain it actually uses the word dazzle.

if they are aimed properly, they dont cause any issues.

they make your car more visible, which is why so many people have them on at all hours (day time included) some may do it for safety, so that they are more noticeable when changing lanes and what not, and others so that people recognise their car more.

I usually use the foglights on my Verada when it's rainy. My foglights aren't blindingly bright, though. The reason I occasionally use them is basically I find they throw a tiny bit more light upwards which allows me to see street signs ALOT clearer.

Howver, I do avoid using them when unnecessary, as I also find people who have f**k-off bright fog lights on 24/7 quite annoying.

throwing light "up" is what you're not supposed to do. thats how they get in oncoming drivers' eyes.

if aimed properly, the brightness of any lights (head or fog) hardly have any affect on oncoming traffic.

That's true, but, It's only a TINY bit of light, enough to notice on those reflective signs but that's about it. I've had cars the same as mine sit behind me with the fog lights on and you don't really even notice. Each car's different, and in general I agree the fog lights fad is a pain in the ass...

Farrrk... people who use fog lights when its sunny, just dark (not raining or foggy) really gives me the shit. It's mainly all the SS and XR drivers, they have them on all the time like they are showing it off like its an exclusive feature. Big deal you have fog lights, does leaving them on enlarge your penis? <_<

But what pisses me off even more are Hyundai drivers with their blinding red rear fog light! ;)

FFS!! Why do you turn it on, this isnt europe, do you think other drivers won't be able to spot your car? Seriously we don't need a blinding light to spot your damn ugly peice of metal on wheels in front of us, we already vomit at the slightest glimpse of your Hyundai kilometres away! -_-

Sorry about the rant.

i don't have fog lights, and i don't care if others use 'em. if they like it then so be it let them hav etheir little joys, it doesn't bother me. i reckon you guys are just nit picking

The thing is most fog lights that come in new cars are very bright (to me anyway). HIDs aiming into your eyes is already bad enough, now we have to put up with more light from unnecessary fog lights. ;)

I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as a white fog lamp....

I don't think they'd work very well :)

fog lights are for seeing in the fog (which australia has very little).

Australia has very little fog?

Have you ever been awake before 6:00am? ;)

And as always, laws vary from state to state, so there's not a lot of point in arguing the legalities of it.

    • So where is this message group so we can organise another meet? Keen to come along and catchup. Might eventually be in a skyline again next year, but the Mustang will have to do for now. Also need to get the WRX back on the road. Stupid f**king money pit that thing is.
    • Stock equivalent turbo replacement is a bit of a nightmare. The old Hitachi ceramic things were pretty good for their time, but they have primitive, vintage aerodynamics. The only thing they have going for them is a light turbine**, and there are plenty of other light turbine options these days, in both materials and CNC manufacturing methods. So, the old stocker makes absolutely no power at all compared to its physical size and its (not very low) boost threshold and response. ** and the ONLY thing that was good about the ceramic turbine was that it was light. In all other respects it is a nightmare. To get a turbo that is anywhere near equivalent in terms of power capacity (ie, to avoid it being "bigger" and needing tuning/fuelling/etc) you have to physically downsize. And that is not a "stockish" replacement. Doesn't just fit where the old one did. At least a frame size down, probably need a new dump, probably need new inlet and outlet piping made on the compressor side, new hose connections as D said above. I say, if you have to suffer that much work, you might as well do the same work to fit an even bigger (than stock) turbo, have more power (and hence have to do injectors, ECU, etc), and love life, instead of suffering with stock power levels. Or, you get a light highflow from someone like Hypergear. A highflow that has not been pushed too far from stock. There are still modification consequences here though. HG's cores are smaller than the massive Hitachi core, so it is shorter, moves the compressor housing backwards and requires mods to the air side piping. Plus new hoses. Looks stock, mostly fits where the stock one did (with the previous caveats mentioned), makes a bit more power but can be run at stock boost levels and not cause too many ECU problems. But, seriously. It's 2024. Like - 25 years since the R33 came out. It's time to put an ECU in it. I Nistuned my car (on RB20 ECU then later again on the Neo ECU) and it was the single best thing possible for minimal money. Dial out the R&R bullshit, fix up the fuelling and timing to make it more efficient for normal driving (cut fuel consumption by >10%). Nistune is not an option for you unless you change the ECU, so you might as well just do a standalone. it will be worth it. And then you can tune it up to the limits of the injectors and AFM, which is pushing 200rwkW and enjoy some actual squirt, instead of the lazy barge-like motion you get from a stock engine, turbo and management.
