AFR Gauge

Hey all...

Just got an Autometer Air Fuel Ratio gauge, and the instructions say to have it on a line with a 5 amp fuse.

If I cut the wire halfway, and use a fuse from Repco or something, am I safer than tacking it on to something that allready has a 5 amp fuse on it?

Tapping it off a wire which already has a 5 AMP fuse wont allow more than 5 AMPS as it is, if you put a second 5 AMP fuse it will just be over kill, there is no need for it.

Is that what you mean?

I was thinking I could either go in off the other wire, or possibly before the fuses alltogether, and have it run its own fuse, but I didnt know if that was possible...

i know what you mean, but the wire is purely for illumination (right? its not the signal wire, is it?) so just tap it off another one.

No, this is the "sport comp" model... No wire purely for lights...

There is a signal wire, an earth, and a hot wire. Thats it.

Now im confused.

3 wires.. Red, Black, Purple.

Red-Electric

Black-Earth

Purple-O2 sensor

thats right, but the red will only need power from an illumination lead (ie, dashlights or HU dimmer) because all it does is turn the light on.

Yeah, but the thing is all LED's, so its not like I can use it without power like a boost gague...

oh der - of course, my bad.

then the red is just ign +12v, just as easy, you make it power when the key is turned - you can tap it off the ign +12v to your HU.

Hey, it came with a mounting bracket, so do I need to get a cup, or could it possibly just sit soewhere? (Preferably not rolling around.)

no, the bracket is for mounting it flush in the dash or a pillar mount or something like that... if you want t on your steering coloumn, you will need a cup.

what size is it? 2-1/16? or 2-5/8?

Im gonna fit it, but I told him about it today. He didnt give me a time frame.

Im not that fussed if it isnt there when I pick up the car, but I would like to get it installed, and (actually) possibly tape it down to the steering column if I dont have the cup. (full budget street racer look)
