Anyone had that feeling....ohhh Shit! I'm farked..@#$^$#

Recommended Posts

True, maybe I was a bit harsh.

DJ984 - I didn't even realise your age when I wrote that post. Age means nothing. I have stated in other threads on this topic that I believe a person should be trained to drive a high powered car. I was in my late 20s when I realised that I had alot to learn.

With regards to the left-right lane statement. I stand corrected. Your initial post made it sound bad. Sorry.

BTW. Yes I 'have' had my moments on the road. Luckily for me most of my moments were in underpowered cars when I was young. I wish I could say that noone was ever hurt but one of my mates girlfriends had a large lump on her head for a while. I was popular. This is why I feel so passionate about this subject.

BIGBLOCKR31COUPE: Apology accepted, and yes i agree, my original post was not as clear as it could have been... I also feel passionate about the subject but have not caused injury to anyone else (luckily)... although, before i was even on my l's... I was in an accident with my brother (who still drives like a maniac to this day) which wrote off 2 cars, snapped my collar bone and did damage to a number of other parts of my body... It was the most scary thing i have ever encountered as i did think i was going to die that night... spend 6hrs in a hospital in emergency, had a few x-rays, a lot of morphene and couldn't go back to school for about 4-6 weeks (which was a lil bit of an upside)... so you can see why i, too, am passionate about the subject and get easily pissed off when people say things like that - no offence...

cheers mate.

Not so much "Oh shit, I'm farked!" but "Oh shit, my car's farked!" Halfway to Chatswood for some Saturday morning shopping. Floor it out from a red light onto Epping road. Hit around 5000rpm, then the car goes POP! FIZZ!! thrub thrub thrub as I try to accelerate. Holy crap! Pull over, I thought I farked my car. Pop the bonnet, couldn't see anything wrong. Get it towed home rather than limp home in case something's really stuffed, total cost of $3.60 or something because it was 1km over the free NRMA limit ;) Have another look under the bonnet (after ringing Tony and asking if he knows what the sound effects might have been) then realise it was just the intake hose behind the AFM popped off ;)

well i dont think this relates but, when i was down south on leavers we went to the airstrrip to go 'rally driving' on the gravel and i was in my mates little corrolla and we went int o a slight bend but he turned to fast in the end we went sideways and was braking and just sliding and waiting for it to flip, but somehow when we hit the ditch, we didnt? in that situation, do we brake or accelrate wen we over steer?

I'd keep an even throttle and steer out (maybe some opposite lock depending on how far the back end is out). Generally if you let off the accelerator it's just as good as braking and you'll lose it but to be honest my line seems to have no problem if I do that. Maybe it's just a better balanced car. People have told me that the 4 doors are more stable in this situation cos of a little extra weight back over the rear axles.

Yes....everyone be careful on the roads. Some people don't think for a second about the consequences, before doing something stupid or risky. If you were to kill another road user....your life would be wrecked.

Drive safe.

Here is a reminder. This guy was in his late 30's. Didn't stand a chance. Speed does kill.

Ouch!

Yeah, I left a couple of skidmarks in my dacks when I was new to my car... I'd always gassed it around a particular corner on the great western highway in my old n12 pulsar. Used to get a fair bit of understeer when it was wet but it was fun in a way. First time I went around the same corner in the skyline I was running on auto pilot and it was about 11pm. Gassed it like usual not too fazed about it being raining (it was also the first time I had driven the skyline in the wet) and this time I didn't get any of that understeer stuff... Did about 5 fishies at 90km/h - luckily nobody around for me to collect  Managed to get out of it though :)

Anyway woke up from auto pilot, saw the trees on the side of the road, big fat guard rails and ditches into dirt embankments, the occasional car coming the other way and thought it to be a good idea to keep my skidmark undies in the glove box for reminder :)

well i had moment like that in my 180sx. i had a Mirage before it, then got the sil80 3 months after getting my licence.

took off from 2 lane turning lane, was first time id driven the car since test drive, first time driving turbo, first time in rear wheel drive, first time id driven in wet weather, and first rains that we had had since the summer season etc so the roads were very greasy and oily, just was at about 3000rpm in 1st, went for 2nd mid corner (bad idea heh) and changed quite sharply as i used to in the Mirage (to keep speed up in that haha)

back came round, nothing i could really do to stop it coz within seconds it had slid up an island to the left of me, scraping the rim, then slid off that, person next to me slowed down, and i slid round into the left lane, and bumped up front first and got stuck in the sandy island with my front wheels. :) cracked front lip and bent steering arm.

was gay but, good lesson. i never again did silly shit in that car, never had any other accidents or anything. and now i am 19 have just gotten DR30 skyline so ill be just as careful with this, coz parts wil lbe harder to find if i stuff anything up :)

its gay to learn that way spinning out but, what else can u do? i reckon as part of driving lessons they should introduce like extra optional course at a discounted price. like the extra Defensive driving or watever they are called, advanced courses that teach u breaking limits and understter/oversteer control. yeh at special rates for new licence holders. could be handy.

here you all were in mines_datsun thread getting up him because he had an accident with your "thanks for putting our insurance up etc" and now every second one of you are saying youve lost control from giving it too much and almost crashed, yet now everyone is saying "oh well thats how you learn to get control of your car".

Got 2 faced?

Perhaps some of us conduct ourselves and our attitudes better on the forum than others, and maybe that alters the other mebers opinions of ourselves for better or for worse.

But here is a place to hear about praying to gods, shitty jocks, and wide eyed terror, not to discuss opinions on other members

You can't honestly believe that enthusiasts would buy Skylines and not ever exceed the arbitrary limit or sometimes get close to or over the limit of the chassis.

Even in the dry (let alone the wet) it's dead simple to overcook it slightly and get the car to oversteer.

The average profile of the Skyline driver is not going to match say an Avalon for example.

The amount of bent Skylines you see is a result of the way the cars are expected to be driven.

People make mistakes but most aren't as wilful as hitting a bus shelter. That sounds a like a 'watch this bro' moment.

Yes but what do you say about someone who speeds on a freeway vs. someone who speeds near a bus shelter (near a school? shopping centre? a pub?).

I was out driving with a friend in a Porsche and this guy was hammering it hard in a shopping centre and outside a crowded university.

Mate I have no problem with someone hitting it up at 150+ on a highway. I might have a problem with someone doing a 2nd gear redline corner outside a place where someone might be minding their own business waiting for a bus.

Or maybe doing a similar high speed run outside a pub or pre-school if that's ever so topical now.

He wasnt fanging it around a crowded area, he did it on the street, like you and everyone have tried.

He was just unlucky to have been near one, but lucky no1 was there.

Dont try tell me youve never hammered it areas you dont know like the back of your hand

I was driving my crap fiesta to an R.A.F base i'd never been to at about 6.30am a few years back. Anyways, it was foggy and i was doing about 80mph down the motorway when i saw the odd looking sign for the base turning left...

...so i get onto the slip road and decelerate when all of a sudden out of the fog i see the f*ck off right-angle bend going to my left about 20 metres ahead. See the actual motorway goes round a left-hand bend when you get on the slip road anyway, so it's hard to realise how quickly you need to decelerate.

Anyways, my car is by no means a performance car but after that incident i gave it a lot more respect. I saw the bend (which had a crossed safety zone on it), pumped the brakes until the front end got really heavy, then as i entered the bend i relaxed the brake so i still had loads of grip on the front tires and the car sailed round. It put the sh1ts up me and when i see the bend nowadays i still wonder how i got the car round it.

Anyways, just goes to show you don't need fancy electronics to make your car corner well, although i'm sure it must be nice to have!!!

DAMN!

Looks worse than what it is, notice how the front bar and guard came away, not damaging the bonnet or front end!! Pheww!

I did need a new set of pants but!
