I finally turned my boss and a work mate over to the darkside of the FORCEd induction performance scene, they both sold there V8 HSV's and bought new XR6 turbos.

Now they both want to increase boost but are concerned with the many stories about the engine and gear box's blowing up, are they rumours and do you know of anyone running higher boost? One has an auto the other manual.

Is it true that FORD can tell if the car has seen more boost at service time?

Any info would be good as I've promised that there turbo can produce some good kw, now I'm a little concerned that the rest of the car might break?

The ECUs have some sort of grub screw that require a special tool to remove. If these have been tampered with then the dealership knows boost etc has been fiddled with. Also the throttle body is fly by wire, adding further complexity to tuning the car without resorting to aftermarket ecu.

A friend that works for the gearbox supplier who supply Ford and who worked on the turbo tells me there is already a Tickford engineer who is about to go out on his own producing parts for the new XR6 turbo as he knows the ways around the Ford ECU and other OE parts/problems.

Martin Donnon of Zoom/HPI/Hot 4s has purchased one o no doubt we will be reading about possible mods shortly

I heard a whisper but its reliability is questionable but the stock turbo (Garrett GT40) can handle 800hp....

Anyway as im sure you've heard, the manual gearbox apparently isnt up to handling any increases in power. The auto gearbox is another matter however as its meant to be a pretty good and hard wearing 'box at that.

6psi is standard boost which equates to 240Kw, rumour has it 270-300Kw has been seen on the Ford dyno in its prototype stages. However im not sure whether this was done through upping the boost. Longevity of other parts may begin to be an issue from this point on. Keep in mind however that they have to keep the XR8 as the pinnacle car of the range - thus keeping the XR6T to under 260Kw, so im sure you can safely wind up the XR6T to surpass the XR8.

As for the Ford mechanics knowing about any increases in boost - that is correct. All functions of all cars are stored within the car's computer and a diagnostic test during a service will hightlight any discrepancies.

My mate loves it when hears this as he works on the auto trans. He also tells me the poor old 5 speed is at an end for handling the torque of the turbo. So stick with a weak clutch as the box wont handle much more.

He also told me the things he was driving to calibrate the box and do R&D on was a lot quicker then the magazines are claiming. He has driven my 32 and advises if an XR6 pulls up alongside me start going thru my CD collection as ill get burned BIG TIME (i cant drive so never race anyway, + scared of the boys in blue...)

i could be wrong, but i heard there is some restriction placed on the turbo, on the intake or exhaust, i dont know, where there is like a choker, that reduces the diameter of the intake/outlet, removing this may see quicker boost.
