Burnt Rubber Smell From R34

Hi all

Every now and then I get a distinct burning rubber smell driving the car normally. It only hangs around for 5 seconds then goes away.

I am pretty certain its not the clutch as it doesnt smell like one and there doesnt seem to be a pattern. Note: this is normal driving, not harsh driving.

Any ideas?

do u half clutch?

coz my mate used to hab rubber kinda smell after he drives when he didn't even drive hard..

but later i notice he uses half clutch a bit..

so yea..

try not to half clutch.. c if u get dat smell..

What's half clutch ?

If you mean I should be clutching in all the way, and then out all the way, yes I am doing this.

Pull out the center console bit and look under the shift boot. See if you still have the rubber padding and stuff there.

It would be coming up from the gearbox area.

Does it get hot/warm in the cabin?

It doesn't get hot, but it does get warm sometimes.

What should I be looking for in the shift boot ed?

possibly clutch slippage, do you have really wide tyres or is the car dumped maybe the tires are rubbing the gaurds but i doubt it

my r31 silohouette used to smell like burning rubber for a while when i put a 2 1/2" zorst on... there was a flap of rubber near the diff and used to smoke if it touched it... definately wasnt my clutch... i didnt worry too much on the assumption that if it does it enough the part thats touching will soon wear away and it did...

Nopes everything is pretty much stock on the car.

Looks like its gonna be one of those mysterious things that will never get worked out since its hard to reproduce the problem.
