Ok, well, as my conversion is coming closer and closer, i have been thinking about launches etc.

In the auto, stalling it up, i cant get any wheelspin off the line OR between gear changes. For an autobox, this is about normal.

The other day, drove my friends WRP10. Sat at the lights, ~3500, drop the clutch, spun some of first and chirpped into second. Anyway, then we were talking about it and he said that his car wouldnt be able to break any traction if it was auto either.

So, onto my question

For the fellas with manuals, whats the wheel spin like with a medium (~3500) launch and on hard shifts 1->2 can you get wheel spin/chirps?

If you can/cant, post what mods you have so i can get an idea of what i should expect.

Cheers,

Alex

ok mines manual and i know its 26 but still, a manual is alot more viscous on takeoff, as autos slip the gearbox off the line (like slipping a clutch in a manual) so it never impacts solidly on the wheels, and i can imagine with a decent clutch due to the 1800kg weight and rb25 it would still spin on launch for sure if u gave it some revs, and even on 1st-2nd changes, i had the rb25 from the stagea in the vl with a manual and stock as a rock and it went bloody hard (unfair comparision as vl weighs around 1450kg).

Manual will feel faster cause it throws ya back in the seat on gearchanges, just dont give it too much off the lights as my axle snapped just coming onto boost in first gear as it reached redline. But the main prob with the stagea was it doesnt have LSD rear diff so all the cars weight (it was in 2wd only when it broke) was driving through that one axle (twig :D )

Should change the car totally with the manual, i cant stand autos trust me :(

Yes well I learnt the hard way that when 4 wheels spin, the car lurches in whichever direction the road is sloping in :D well at least that is what has happened to me, both times in the wet though.

I have a GTR diff though, but still, in the dry anything above ~4.5k rpm the front really starts to move around a bit, but in the wet, it truely is an amazing feeling when all for spin, cant quite explain it.

In the dry I can chirp 2nd and 3rd, in the wet I can spin through 2nd, have not tried 3rd, havent got the balls yet ;)

BASTARDS!

Ill be there soon, urgh, autos piss me off :D

Only a matter of time now...

But that info sounds very good, very promising and something that ill look forward too.

Chances are i should upgrade the diff at the same time i beleive, as the PFC/power mods etc will all be going in at the same time, so a brisk jump in power and a manual wont make the car love me much...

Hmm, I haven't taken the chance of doing a hard launch off the line yet, because I don't want to be breaking any driveshafts this early in my ownership experience (and because I don't yet have the money to replace anything).

But, seeing as my car has had a six-puck clutch installed when the conversion was done, it's kinda hard to "ease" in the clutch in on gear changes when you're hard-charging. I'm still getting used to it, which doesn't help.

But to answer part of the question, then yes, it will chirp on changes into second and third gears.

And my car is standard apart from the R-32 GT-R gearbox, the aforementioned clutch and a 3" cat-back exhaust.

Cheers,

Nick T.

I reckon if I raced an auto with the same power, the auto would win, easier to get off the line without wheelspin and faster gear changes.

But anyone could beat me, everytime I went to the drags in my old r33 all I ever ended up doing was wheelspinning, :D I is teh suck at drag racing :(

I dont know, for some reason i cant see an auto winning until some serious (200+) power is reached

What i find with the stagea, with the auto is that it bogs down between 2500-4000. I presume with the manual, depending how hard i laucnh, i could probably end the wheel spin around 3500 and that would be perfect

But i think the issue i am seeing is more a matter of my car being standard tuned.

The reason I ask is we have an R34GTT manual with 265 rwkw that does 11.9 at 120 mph and the Stagea is faster on the average street, up to the speed limit (110 kph). The Stagea pulls away until the R34GTT gets is power to the ground, stops wheelspinning, which is all of 1st gear and about 2/3 of second gear. The Stagea has around 150-160 4wkw at the moment judging by its feel. So when it has 200 4wkw it is just going to be that much harder to beat.

I can launch the Stage with 0.7 bar of boost by simply holding it against the torque converter. Then just slide the left foot off the brake, no wheelspin and it never gets under the the 0.7 bar. There is no way that the manual will ever do that, and the auto is so stealth, no noise, no rev, rev, rev, dump, wheelspin. Just see ya ......

:) cheers :)

but ya get to change gears :)

and droping the clutch in 4wd wouldnt spin bugger all would it? considering the attessa is similiar to r33/34 models?

honestly i ran mine in 2wd only and with 350rwhp it hardly wheelspins compared to normal 2wd cars (e.g. VL) which i could spin anytime over 120kmh or so it would just kick out, but the stagea is a really grippy in comparision, even from lights leaving at 3k rpm it would spin and then scramble for grip for the first 10 metres and then its traction :D

I have 288kW at all wheels in mine. At 3,000 RPM launch the tyres lose traction for literally a fraction of a second (they "chirp", but that's it) then it's grip all the way. I have 275/35 R18 Goodyear GSD3's all round. No loss of grip on gear changes ever, and I am currently running 1.3 bar.

The fun will start in a few weeks when the T51R goes on... :)

    • Rear doors central locking wiring removed and cleaned. See the first 8sec video of when it’s filled with river silt. its a snip of what I’m up against. front and rear doors complete now. Maybe another day removing carpet and bits and pieces. Then the re assembly begins. 🤙 att.DqweJqhY5MZiZYQDVMhn3LtvdD1RBZ7TBG4f2s7W1zM.mp4 att.lFuN22MZEowqCbFAXoDw009r2gHL76ChMVfxMfBX-uk.mp4
    • There aren't boost creep issues, it's not engineered around the restriction of the cats but if you haven't tuned the engine a full decat + exhaust can flow enough air to run off the end of the OEM load scales and you will get a pretty substantial reduction in ignition timing as a result. I recommend using DFCO, avoiding ignition cut limiters, and avoiding popcorn tunes along with running a cat unless you enjoy a perpetually soot-covered and potentially burnt bumper.
    • Small update, it's been slow moving over the Christmas period with money having to go everywhere thats not my car 😅. I got myself a little present to myself from "santa" in the form of some tidy radiator mounts from fitmint automotive to get rid of the stock ones that look like they have been in an accident before and then straightened by a caveman. I know I should've replaced the rubber bush at the same time but I had no idea how bad they were until I was replacing the mounts. Decided to order their dash mat while I was at it as I feel like I am lucky enough to have a pretty decent condition dash and I don't want to risk it being ruined while it's parked in the aussie sun while I'm at work. I have found another electrical fault to add to the evergrowing list to eventually chase down. Every time I replace my taillight globe it blows within a day of use, I'm starting to think my life would be easier if I took a few minutes to learn how to use  a multimeter 😂.   Had some luck with finding a series 2 drivers headlight on marketplace to replace my mismatched series 1 headlight, a subtle difference but it's nice to have a matching set of lights now.   I returned to the air con problem due to being sick of this summer heat, found a good condition condenser to replace my leaking one! I got it in the car and was happy when I got the thumbs up that the system was now holding gas. Sadly the compressor is not kicking in for some reason, we even tried branching the relay in the fuse box. I have tried to do some research on the issue with no clear understanding of what the fix is, so for now it will be placed on the backburner until I can be bothered to look into the wiring to the compressor. The last small mods I have done was cutting the horizontal vents out of the front bar, not really in a functional airflow sense but I just think it looks better as I am not a fan of the series 2 bar. I also switched the shift knob out for a hosoboyo aluminium grex style one, it has a really nice more direct driving feel than the outdated rubbery oem one. Thirdly, I chucked on one of the ebay bonnet strut kits. The fitment is decent and they seem to work fairly well. They have only given out once while the car was parked facing downhill, I think if I was working under the bonnet I would still put the oem hood stay up to be precautionary as to avoid getting a speedy concussion.
    • Got pneumonia, haven’t played with her in a while, but I’m back now. Previous owners cut bonnet pins into the bonnet. My choice try find a replacement or spend $15 get some pins myself to cover up. Now only one small hole to cover. looks shit now, but when the bonnet is red again. Be good 🤞
    • No R32 GTSt had 15" wheels. 205/55-16 was standard GTSt fare. 4.36:1 is standard R32 turbo auto diff. I think the manual was too, not 4.11. 4.11 and 4.08 were R33 namual and auto respectively.
