hey guys looking at getting these tyres, they are a semi slick, but still road legal. i know that on the road they'll get chewed up but they're mainly for a track car anyway.

has anyone tried these out? i hear that they are really good... but being a street registered tyre also, was wondering if they need to be warmed up and how they drive in the wet...

cheers

Before any of the other circuit racers reply, I'll start off by saying that they're not a semi slick. They're just a very aggressive street tyre.

You don't have to take my word for it, even Falken's marketing drones advertise them in the "Passenger radial" section rather than "motorsport" section.

They're probably one of the best street tyres for track work around. Great mechanical grip, reinforced sidewalls for less flex, and because of the big tread blocks they don't overheat as easily.

Guys who've driven on them and Dunlop S03s on the track say that the mechanical grip is about the same, but the RT215s will last longer before overheating and going greasy on you.

They're a usable tyre in the wet. While they're newish, they have the same grip as a set of worn "regular" street tyres. They're something you have to be aware of if you're going to heavy brake, but not something you need to treat with kid gloves.

They do work better with a little bit of heat in them, but that's the same for any sports tyre. It doesn't take much to get them up to temp either.

However, they do wear very quickly. I had a set on my otherwise stock N15 SSS, and they lasted 11,000kms. Of course, I was doing the Old Pac 3 times a week and I didn't really need to brake with these tyres.

if you are just wanting track tyres (you said they are for a track car) i would get something else. RE55s are all the rage atm, i don't have any myself but i've tried them on a mates car and thought they were quite good. certainly better than the yoko A032Rs and much better than the old RE540s.

I am curerently going about ordering a set of RT615 for the 1/4 mile as a step up from the normal street tyres I have been using on the strip

and the price difference between the RT215 and RT615 is only a $10 difference per tyre that is for 205/50 X 15.

this is not ment as a hi jack just showing the updated version of the RT series

Those RT615's look pretty good for a street tyre. Don't think they'd hold up as well as the RT215's but they look like they'd be better in the wet.

If anyone's going to try them, some feedback would be great. :P

    • Oh damn, I have not switched around any wiring on the harness at all yet. I had my ecu sent off to a tuner to tune for my setup and disable the turbo pressure sensor so there's no more fuel cut. Should I switch the pin around for the ring gear crankshaft position sensor? What types of symptoms would show if something is about to go wrong related to that? thank you
    • pretty much just finished my rb20neo + t and manual swap...let me tell you, it is a pain in the ass the first time. took me almost a year at this point trying to chase down minor issues. But, I think if I was to do it again, I could probably do it with almost 0 problems with how much troubleshooting experience ive gained lmao. So either +T and upgrade the transmission, or just LS swap it and throw in a CD09 lmao. there ya go
