I always though the 040 was a stupid design.. and yet now everybody seems to want to fit one.

910 is nearly same flow and can be mounted same as factory position without problems, and you can attach the standard sock via a bit of minor adjustment.

GTR pump is also not bad and should support up to 'around' 250rwkw.. which is what I have just put in my car. You have to mess a bit with the socks there too but it works. Its just a bit older so there is a slight question over reliability.

My thoughts.. if you want at or around 250rwkw.. don't stuff around with the 040, go straight for the 044.

Damn - just bought a 040 (for $198 delivered) and have received it already... wish I read this post beforehand, as the 910 was around $30 cheaper!

Plus Im only after 200awkw for my Stagea. But the workshop said it wasnt a problem to fit it up, maybe I'll ask them to install it as low as possible.

Query - whats the story with this last 1/4 tank? Something I should be aware about?

something to do with how the 040 gets mounted in the tank

walbros/stockos use a sock

the 040s have to sit upright or something, so cant take advantage of the full tank

apparently it can be a problem with hard cornering also . . . .

i certianly wouldnt want the fuel pump to come up dry, mid booting it through a corner

When i installed my 040 i cut the bottom of the bracket and sat it lower than the standard pick up so i can get about 40km's on the fuel light now....

Its all about installation.... A tiny bit more noise but you cant hear it once the car starts.... Exhaust takes care of that....

I swear i should open a shop.... Id make a motza....

But yeah cut the bottom of the bracket off and then sit the pump as low as possible it does touch the bottom of the tank on the edge.....

ok i've redone it now.. it was about an inch higher than yours in the pic.. so i've made it slightly lower now as well.. only took me like 2 hours second time round :D same amount of cuts though :)

I installed the Tomei fuel pump in my 300awkw R32 GTR - and it works fine. Installed an SX regulator at the same time tho

it's a direct replacement for the std pump, is NOT noisy like the 040s, I don't need to worry about how much fuel I have and I don't get any surging (all cool)

It's a little more expensive than the 040 and I got mine from Nengun :angry:

paulr33, what do you think a gtr pump would support up to max? I am looking at around 250rwkw.. it should support this no probs hey?

Using the standard wiring (ie; 11.5 volts at the pump) the R32GTR fuel pumps are OK for ~265 rwkw. If you use a relay and dedicated wiring (ie; 13.8 volts at the pump) they are OK for ~300 rwkw. The Z32 fuel pump is pretty similar to the R32GTR one. The R33GTR fuel pump actually flows slightly more. I have not tested an R34GTR fuel pump, or seen a proper test of one. Following is the best test of Nissan pumps I have seen;

The following is a good example of what happens to a fuel pump's flow when the voltage changes;

Fuel pumps are rated at flow versus pressure, that's why I laugh when is see stuff like "500 bhp fuel pump". Bosch fule pumps are rated at 73.6 psi, Assuming 36 psi fuel pressure (above boost) the Bosch pumps will flow their rated capacity up to 2.5 bar boost.

As you can see from the above at 13.5 volts the Walbro GSS341 flows 260 l/h (its rating) at zero boost (ie; ~36 psi fuel pressure). But at 2 bar this drops to 220 l/h.

A comparsion in size;

Flow at pressure is all about consistent torque, and a fuel pump needs torque from its electric motor. As usual if you want more torque you need a bigger motor.

Hey Guys

Im confused about fuel pumps. I know i could just get a 044 and be done with it, but i dont like the issues that might occur if its installed wrong (last quarter tank pickup) and also the noise that it might make. Also, since ill be mounting it in tank, it means that the factory bracket will be mangled and itll be harder to put back to stock if i ever need.

Im not really considering 2nd gtr items cause of the hassles that might come with it (not much warranty, old etc)

I want to get a fuel pump from nismo or tomei. Price wise theyre similar. $340 - $360 for rice brand vs $ 310-$330 for bosch. Take into account that you dont have to modify anything for the jap brands, the jap brands will probably be cheaper if you take it to a mechanic to get installed.

Nismo's specs are

246 liters per hour at 2.94bar

Tomei's specs are

248 litres per hour at 3 bar

Bosch 044 specs are

200 litres per hour at 5 bar

My power target is around 250-270rwkw (probably with a gt-rs or similar)

So for that i need 6 X 550cc injectors (just to be on the safe side)

So that comes to 3.3L/min or 198L/hour (max the injectors will flow)

Assuming fuel pressure is 2.5bar and a gt-rs is run at 19psi, the total psi i need is 55.75psi or 3.8 bar

Out of the 3 above, only the bosch meets my requirements as it has the flow capicity as well as the pressure capacity.

So i guess what im asking is:

Is it still ok to get the tomei or nismo fuel pumps?

I mean, itbmils has 300kw with the tomei one (the gtr one i assume which is 276L/h@3bar)

Initially i thought it was just the flow i needed to look at, but with the psi rating as well, im confused.

Are my calculations totally way off (if i run 19psi of boost, do i need an extra 19psi of fuel pressure?)

Anyone have any thoughts?

How do you install a Walbro 255L/Hr fuel pump in an R32 GTS-T? Do they come with instructions, or do you need to get a professional garage to install them?

I live in Mildura, so finding a pro garage might be a bit of a drama!

word of advise... i had a walbro 550hp in tank pump installed incorrectly, causing my brand new 310kw rb25 setup 2 lean out under huge 3rd gear tire smokin and i now need new rings. hooray for dodgy pump installs...
