Has anyone thought of lifting a Stagea (4WD style) ie similar to a Forester ? How would it perform on the sand or very light 4WD track ?

Do you reckon it could do Fraser Island (the beach router only - not the mountain / sand hills route)

This might sound crazy - But I have a 4WD and a R32 - now if I had a Stagea, lifted it, put on some all terain tyres for the rough - and keep the road tyres/wheels for the street, I would only have to have one car.

The other option is a Forester GT - but they are pretty Exy.

Thanks in advance.

Isn't the 32 a GTS-4???

I'd guess it would be possible with new suspension arms to make clearance and new shafts to allow for the extra drive angle, but maybe massive wheels/tyres and guard work would be cheaper and a more solid solution.

All the same you would get as far as Indian head and have to come back.

It might work, but it would put alot of extra stress on suspension, steering, gearbox ect.. The Atezza system was designed to assist the vehicle in slippery conditions and cornering not to constantly drive the front wheels, so I dont know if the Atezza CPU could handle much off road driving because it was not designed for that application.

Good luck if you try it.

Cheers

Chris

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be any good. For a start the middle and front diffs act like open diffs, the front always, the middle untilthe rears start spinning. I reckon you would be getting wheel spin all the time which I understand is pretty useless in for sand driving.

Also, when you are running front torque all the time the fluid boils pretty quick, and the clutch packs wear. Only 20min at Targa is enough to cook it so imagine how it would be after an hour on the sand

Finally....no low range gears :)

even though to make thje power ud need to run such a heavy car (poojeros arent light) youd need so much boost that it wouldnt spool til 6? you need a low down torquey engine. its a nice idea, but your best bet would be supercharging your paj. probably a cheaper, easier option, as well, if you are serious.

or putting another engine in the back.

haw haw.. yeah i remember seeing a review of the V8 Holden Adventra on sand - absolutely useless! Sorry for comparing the mighty Stagea to a Holden, but I think it would probably be similar in behaviour. :D
