Hi Guys,

I am just passing on a warning to anyone interested in buying tomei bigend bearings, Dont as you will get std nissan bearing wrapped in bubble wrap with a small stricker and at three times the cost of the std bearing. I am not kidding i recently order a set of nismo mains and ask for a quote on tomei or nismo bigends figuring(when quote came through with the tomei units i figured why not same price as nismo) everything else i have bought from tomei had been of good performance grand but the std bearing i removed from this motor had started to fail under the load of 530rwhp plus and the bearing they supplied were stamped nissan with the nissan part number the works even in the nissan vacuum wrapping. So to say i feel like and idiot paying nearly $300 deliveried for std bearing i can buy from the local nissan dealer for $11 a journal is an unstatement i have contacted the supplier of the product to see if i can work something out but i will have to wait and see what happens.

As for using other type bearing i tried sourcing King and had no luck and tried getting acl racing but the local dealers are hopeless and also couldn't source me the bearing either so i when will buy nismo/tomei from japan out of last option.

ps if anyone is chancing std bearings spec 1 from $280 let me know lol hehehe DAMN IT

edit: i was asked to add the final result to the first entry

To finish off the story i have recieved word back from the supplier who has confirmed that the bearings are std bearings which have a coated in the tomei finish(micro finished) then sold as tomei bearing ,so my orginial concern was wrong that there just resold but i was right the the base is a std bearing unit resurfaced. But i have already accessibled the bottom end with nismo big end bearings from x-speed.

so if anyone want some tomei spec 1 bigends for a rb26/25 $200(cost me over $300 to land)

There seems to be alot of the manufactures that use other manufactures products. HKS use Garrett Turbo's - but at least these are modified versions.

I hate to see the same item sold by another company for a higher price. Thats just crap!

I had alot of confidence in Tomei - so far always made a great product. Now have to be a bit careful not to get screwed!

I If I want a Nissan product, I would of bought it from Nissan (unless I knew it was Nissan and it was cheaper buying else where)

Hey Pete,

I thought I told you that? Or was it someone else? They are not quite the standard Nissan NDC bearings. They are treated. (That's what the micro finish buisiness is about).

ACL reace big ends are damn cheap, that's what I am using. Why don't you give them a go? I'm not too keen on their mains though.

hi mick,

like i said in thread i tried to get acl race bearing but the local supplier havent got a clue and the part number list on sau didnt work the mains show up but the bigend number listed on sau didnt. I dont unstand how a simple thing like get engine bearing has come such a pain in the arse. the tomei bearing are still in the std nissan vacuum wrap.

The ACL big ends are 2960's...same as sr20.

Interesting about the bearings being in the nissan wrap. I'm just going off what my supplier in Japan told me...he said they are the same bearings with a special surface finish.

If you get really stuck with the big ends, I can send a set over.

One possibility is that Nissan (or the company they contract) do the extra surface finishing of the Tomeii bearings as a final step in the manufacture of the OEM items. That way they would still end up in the OEM wrapping.

It might not make economic sense for Tomeii to buy, maintain and operate millions of dollars of manufacturing gear for a relatively low volume component.

I probably should have added "seems to be" to that.. their z32 airflow meter is nissan.. their fuel pumps look awefully like the GTR one.. so wouldn't surprise me if something like the bearings are the same. They just stick their badge on it and stick a massive markup on it <_<

somebody might have some more solid info..

The AFM they 'sell' is a nissan one., and they don't try to hide that. It is also prices the same as the genuine nissan part.

The fuel pumps and fprs are the same as nismo ones, and I'm pretty sure a tomei fuel pump is cheaper then an OEM nissan one.

They do share some parts with nismo (cranks as well), but nothing with OEM nissan that I know of (actually, I suspect that their type A valve springs are OEM nissan)

The bearings are definately different. Whether they are any better or not, I don't know.

Clevite SR20 big end bearings are also identical to nissan (NDC) but have a different coating. This could be where the tomei ones are sourced from.

most of the tomei gear is simply rebadged nissan oem..

rofl dude you have to be joking right?

i got a tomei fuel pump and its sure as hell not a stock nissan pump.

as Mik said the afm is a stock nissan item but im pretty sure its just the plugs that are different

In that case - you might want to edit your thread and say you were wrong.

Otherwise people that just read the first few posts get the wrong impression.

So many people on here come and abuse a brand before contacting their supplier and seeing whats up.

i use acl race series bearings now as nismo are the best but bloody dear...

the acls are holding in my rb26 with 900 plus hp so far... no probs...and cheap as...

anyone after some acl race series send me a pm...

This doesn't speak very highly of the Tomei product if a HiOctane sponsored racer wont/doesn't use the Tomei product. Thanks for your honesty Mark.
