hey fellas after owning an r33 gtst after something new, was wondering what the r32 gtst4 all wheel drive skylines are like,

Would like to now realiablitiy of them are like parts and can they take abit of abuse etc, also fuel wise what are they like any info be great guys or are the real wheel drive versions better cheers

Expect immediate power loss if they're both stock as not only will you be competing with a smaller engine, you'll also have a heavier (than 32 gts-t) car and the extra loss through the 4WD drivetrain.

If you're planning to mod the car (to a reasonable level) then the lower power can be overcome but if you're leaving them stock I'd either keep the R33 or get the R32 Gts-t as with these levels of power (under 300bhp) the 4WD will only really be an advantage in the wet.

GTS4's are fun, but don't expect it to be anything like a GTR. its supposed to be a GTSt that can be used in snowy areas or places where you don't want the rear wheels to get bogged down in. Spend some money on it and you'll have a fun car, but then again, you can usually spend the same amount of money and buy a GTR to start with.

gts4's are pretty good, I had mine for 6 years before I said good bye.

Just make sure you know what you want to do with the car , i.e. power wise, and upgrading suspension etc. The gts4 uses GTR suspension and just about everything besides the engine/gearbox ratios and dif.

So if you get into upgrade mode you can easily spend the same money someone who has a GTR will with one catch, it won't sell for the price a GTR will, even after you put in all those nice GTR bits. The good thing being that a GTS4 will be cheaper to buy, and a std GTS4 will be pushed very hard to break bits that are designed for a GTR's power output.

Not to knock the car, if you are happy with potential of 200 odd kw($5-$6k- at cheapest) at the wheels with a few mods then go the GTS4. You'll love the wet weather performance and you will go looking for wet roads!

If you think you could go nuts - i.e. you need this bit now that you upgraded that bit syndrome - go the GTR. An otherwise stock GTR running 14/15 psi, k&n, 3.5inch cat back, rechipped ecu will put out about 200kw at wheels.

The GTS4's std are not slower than the GTST's, maybe if you are dragging from the lights in the dry but on a circuit its a different story, I have track times to prove that at QLD raceway. I remember a GTST which was running wider tyres than me and stock like mine and it could not pull away on the straights, although I couldn't run the same cornering lines as him due to my extra weight and narrower tyres. I had to go into the corners a bit softer but I was able to come out of them at full acceleration while the GTSt was just trying to keep it straight and get traction.

No matter which way GTS4 or GTR you will love the traction advantage!

p.s. I am thinking of getting a R34 25GT-Four next year, only 2.5 NA awd, but theres always a front cut from a stagea to make it turbo...

man are u serious that 5-6k will get u about 200kw?what mads would this include?im looking for a gts4 as well and am hopefull of getting near to 300rwhp( mads im planning to get to this hp figure:new turbo,fmic,exhaust,fuel pump and injectors,pwr fc,up the boost to about 12psi normal driving and a bit more when drifting)...am i dreaming to get these pwr figures?

to clarify, I mean 200kw at wheels, not at engine, so your rwhp is realistic with those mods.

I think $5 - $6 k on the cheap side really.

microtech $1200~ +$500~ to tune, haven't got any mates where tune would end up less than this, always seems to need more than one attempt to get it right- especially if you like cold start and idle to work properly.

turbo - new $2000~ see horspowerinabox etc

injectors if required - $$900 - new for 6

front mount - cheapie inc pipes $700 - new

exhaust - 3 inch cat back $400 2nd hand

fuel pump $175~

boost controller $

labour costs to fit turbo, exhaust etc..

dump pipe $250

high flow cat $200~

...

of course all the same costs for a gtst too.

but need to be realistic if you want the HP, i know a few guys who ended up going the mod route and they would have been better off to save and buy a 'Good' GTR.

I have a GTS-4 4 door with an RB26 in it (and a few other GTR bits). They can be modded to drive pretty much indentically to GTRs (almost exactly the same drive train) however they do suffer from the small engine and bogging down. I wouldn't want to compare to an R33 though, very different cars.. R32s are a lot older, expect to notice the differences in age very very quickly :D.

i own an r32 gts4 and cant be more happy with it. im glad i went the 4wd over the rwd. though i dont have experience driving a gtst, popping the 4wd fuse is only fun for a few days, after that i put it back in and enjoyed knowing the front would kick in if needed. not saying i thrash the car, though.

as for bogging down, learn to launch and its not so bad. not saying im professional, but i find prerevving to 4000rpm and a hesitant style popping the clutch (not quite dumping, but a smooth dump? heh) will find the wheels chirp and rocket off. wet driving is great also, even my friend with a worked rb20 powered vl thinks the car is great in the wet.

i suppose everyones right though, if youre chasing a cheap gtr by modding the hell out of it, probably better to get the gtr outright. gts4 is good for traction comfort i think.

The GTS4 pulls well out of corners obviously and is a lot of fun to drive, it depends what you can do yourself in the modification process. People who get everyone else to do their car up are always going to be paying a lot more (labour, getting ripped off etc). If you are proficient at modifying cars and know people who can get cheaper parts the GTS4 bang for buck will be better in my opinion. The extra traction is a clear bonus and installing a switch to cut the circuit for the fuse to RWD is great fun. Obviously as with GTR's can be understeer, but with correct mods, knowledge and contacts it's a great way to go. Not to mention it's different to most R32 Skylines out there...Thoroughly enjoy mine!

thanks for info guys been great yeah i would be mooding it over time to say roughly 200 plus rwkw its either guna be the gtst4 or an 180 but you think i can find a nice one not likely all are claped out or done to many km 180 that is.

Getting desperate for car after selling the 33 bit toey for something else :lol:

    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
