Can someone tell me how this works?

ie. blocking off the 2 pipes and venting the third one under the car???

i dont even know what it does... all i know is that it is a carbon canister and is there for an emissions reason.

i refer to this...

well i did it today out of share boredom... if it has made a change it isnt too significant... maybe i can connect and disconnect them next time on a dyno to see what exactly it does do in regards to power

nope... still have no idea... perhaps something to do with the fuel vapor and the way it reacts with carbon/charcoal?

why disabling it would somehow give u more power i have no idea

Hey nark, if u read the FAQ man, it actually says:

"Remove the carbon canister (makes more room in the engine bay) "

This mod doesn't improve power in any way, but is done to free up space in the engine bay. The can gets in the way when making a CAI partition, and I'm sure other ppl have found it to be obtrusive for other reasons.

At least you have some more space in your engine bay now :)

The fuel tank has a vent to stop pressure build up when it warms up. Combustable gases under pressure are dangerous, so don't block it.

The carbon canister strips some of nastiness in fuel getting in the atmosphere. Removing it would be illegal, and if you do it at least make sure it doesn't vent onto some thing hot, like engine bits, brakes or some bugger's cigarette butt.

A good indication of a badly blocked carbon canister/lines is a HUGE rush of pressurised air/fuel vapours when the fuel cap is removed, i.e the system isn't doing what it was designed to do.

A minor amount of built up pressure on a hot day isn't anything to be majorly concered about however.

if u remove the carbon canister u will also get bad petrol vapour smell everytime u reverse or at the traffic lights if on idle for a long time!

whatsisname

My canister doesent seem to be blocked off and i dont get any petrol fumes in the car but when i take the filler lid off i do get rush of pressurised air comin out.

all unleaded cars get that rush.... i used to get it on my daewoo ffs lol

i think i will just relocate it then... cause i want to put a partition in as soon as poss.

thanks guys for clearing it up.

ummm, i think the carbon cannister is there to evacuate fuel vapours out of the inlet manifold back to the fuel tank, when the ambient temp is really high. and disconnecting it could cause explosion when u next start up and there is fuel vapours in your inlet manifold. it is more of a safety device than an enviromental one, and there could be no performance gain except weight reduction.
