Better Timing Belt?

I have a new Gates belt and OS Giken gears and have not heard any noise emanating from the belt.

To clarify, I can't hear the noise inside the cabin when driving. It is only really noticeable when parked and most certainly when the bonnet is up.

Initially, I was concerned about the noise, thinking that something was "wrong". Since then, I haven't been overly conscious of the noise.

Your belt has been overtensioned. No belt should be noisy, no matter what brand it is. If you overtighten it....it will hum.

I have installed Gates, HKS, Greddy and Nissan ones and none of them make noises. You just have to know what you are doing.

Is the timing belt tension manually adjusted?

It is spring tensioned but is also able to be manually tensioned. You never rely on the spring on the tensioner bracket to provide full tension. It always has to be manually done to ensure correct tension is applied.

i just got my gates one put on,bit more noisy but not to bad,likje the noise if anything...the bloke at advan said i should most defintaly change both tensioner bearings,but i also did pump to

Had a gates put on 6 months ago and has never made a noise. Install was free as my mechanic mate has lots of accidents in his car, im a spraypainter so we just trade off.

Usually noisier if you put more tension on the belt.
