well im driving home from a good night on the weekend and suddenly it wasnt such a good night

didnt see it till the last minute but some punk had put a rather large rock in the middle of the road and I collected it right in the front bar/intercooler. It was almost a foot tall i reckon and 50 metres further along there was a shopping trolley sitting there again in the middle of the road waiting for someone with even slower reaction time than me  F*#cking idiots, dont u just love those tools who do that kinda helpful things for humanity

anyway dented the bottom of the intercooler pretty badly but the money shot was the fact that it had pushed it back so sharply that the back of the inlet tank was smashed onto a sharpish piece of chassis metal making about an inch diameter hole.......so no it doesnt drive too well

I guess ill just buy a cheap just jap replacement 600*300 fmic I suppose couldnt see it be worth fixing

BUT my biggest worry now is bit of aluminium or rock having gone through and screwed the motor, hopefully some would have been caught in the cooler since it was on the inlet side but Im spewing - any ideas on the chances of engine damage?? maybe ill just have to see

end rant

cheers guys

Damn are you lucky that was on the intake side! I have heard of end tanks being replaced. I live in a small town and there's a shop locally that can do it. (no help to you, just an encouragement to look into it)

For the same price as a cheapo intercooler, it might be worth it to get the stock one repaired. Someone with real experience in this could correct me, but I imagine that the stock one flows better than a cheapo.

    • Has anybody had their wheels refurbished? I reckon it's likely bloody expensive. Even a sand blasting quote for my 17s was 200-300 per wheel! The E39 wheels are basic BMW M Sport (or M Tech at the time.) they have slight rash and some have signs of bad repair in the past on the lips. The main issue is that they've become really off coloured.  I think it will be too much as this is definitely (supposed to be) a budget resto. I've been looking at others for sale but they all have some minor damage and colour issues.  In the end I think I'll just need to sand blast them myself and do a respray.
    • Trying to figure out which nismo cluster i have. All the ones i see on the internet, the speedo goes up to 320kph and the revs 11k, with the nismo logo being on the rev gauge only. But on my one, the speedo goes up to 300 and says nismo, while the revs only go upto 10k and no nismo logo Dunno how to embed pics into a post so ill attach pic of my cluster and generic google search for reference Is what i have genuine?
