Alright done a search, well several actually to no avail...

I have a SII R33, standard turbo standard everything, never boosted.

Today after starting it, (it had been sitting there for 3 weeks unstarted) I noticed at idle a strange squel, high pitched similar to a rattle noice through the pod filter. It is very intermittent...ie is not a constant tick tick etc, but on occassion...

Now we all know the knee bone is connected to the leg bone, so is this noise from the turbo I am assuming, also this goes away as soon as the rev's increase...which makes me think the turbo shaft may be slightly out of balance...but then why intermittent.

On boost no noise other than the normal compressor noise...has anyone had this???

Should I pull the gear off and check for shaft play, is the compressor wheel rubbing on the housing????

if it has been sitting for a while and not done any moving and its only at idle i would be pointing the finger at the bearings inside the turbo.

I would take off the intake pipe and see if the shaft spins freely and check it for shaft play. if it seems ok. I would take off the oil supply line and pour about 100ml of fresh oil the same as what you are currently using into the supply line hole. and give the shaft a few good spins for a minite or so. connect the supply line back up and the intake and start the car (you can drain 100 odd ml from the sump if needed)

sometimes if a turbo is hot when last run and then it sits for a long period the oil inside the bearings semi solidifies. I think this may be your problem.

hope this helps.
