Hi all,

I noticed that in my 34, I have to step on the brake pedal a fair bit more to get it to stop. The feel of the brakes are poorer at very low speeds e.g. 5-10km/hr.

Stopping from normal speeds is okay, but when you slow down to 5-10km/hr, you have to give the brakes a little push further to bring it to a complete stop.

I am used to driving new cars where you can just step on the pedal at a constant rate and it will come to a stop.

I don't know whether this is just how the brakes are or whether something is wrong with mine.

Can anybody offer any insight?

Thanks

Car was only complianced last month, and unfortunately I do not have a service history for it. Pads look good ie. plenty of meat on them, I might just have to do a brake fluid flush coz it probably has never been done.

How much fluid is needed when bleeding brakes on a 34? Id say it would be the same as a 33 right>?

You can do it with a 1 litre bottle but sometimes it takes just a fraction more which is annoying. It should have new pads and fluid from the compliancing so perhaps there is an air bubble in there.

Either way, bleed your brakes and get back to us.

Just checked with compliance people who did my car, brake fluids were replaced last month and pads would have been replaced with Nissan pads if less than 50% were used up.

My pedal feels quite hard when braking, it feels as if the pads arent gripping the rotors properly. Will check them out this weekend.

It may be your pads....if you have pads which are more track oriented than road oriented, they might need to warm up a bit before they start working well.

..but having said that, I reckon the brake pedal in Skyline feels totally different to the brake in any other car.

Mechanics have said that the ABS is working fine and the brakes are fine. Checked the vacuum lines and everything is good.

I think the pads may be a slightly hard compound making the feel not that great. They also said I am probably not used to driving a big heavy car also.

First of all, and believe it or not, the R34 Skyline is not a big heavy car when compared to local products. From memory, the the Skyline is nearly 300 Kg lighter than the BA Falcon. It may be heavy when compared to some fibreglassed monster but at 1350 kg does not rate in the heavy catergory.

I use EBC Greenstuf pads and these suckers will just about put you thru the windscreen. Their temp range is 50C to 650C, have next to no squeal when cold and only need one application to come up to temp from cold. Do not suffer from fade on street and spirited driving use, next to none in brake dust and are relatively gentle on the rotors.

Definitely sounds like you may have a bubble.

Cheers and good luck
