Cnc Ported Rb25 & Rb26 Heads.

I'm in the early stages of setting up a deal to have some heads CNC ported. These heads will be done on a 5 axis CNC machine and flow figures will be guaranteed to be the same for every port. It's a pretty costly exercise to set up for and I'm wondering if people would be willing to pay to have it done. The porting should cost between $800-$1100 per head, cheaper if it was a batch being done.

The port design will be hand ported and then flow tested until it is spot on and then digitised. It will be a few months before anything will be ready but I just want to know what sort of interest there is out there.

yeah me to just finish hand porting mine last week and the head has been rebuilt but i will watch this thread with interest.

Getting the first ports right would be the time consuming part i guess and the gain over std would be the selling point, it might be worth flowing the std port and develop the template ports inlet/exhaust as if you have flow test showing the increase of the port design in question it would be alot more easy to justify the cost if you know you will get x amount of increase flow (you know what your buying so to speak)

There are already a few places offering this service on RB26 heads, but you are going to find that there is substantial core shift on the castings. Rough CNC and hand finishing/flowing is probably the only real way to do it if you insist on using CNC machinery.

But, would want before and after bench flow results of CNC porting to be used before sending the head over there.

That pricing looks familiar to a site in the states that can provide all that. Also there are two places in the UK that do it day in day out.

One of the UK guys is an ex formula 1 engine builder / machinist

and the other place has been pioneering machining and building race engines since the 70's...

its just the cost factor to get it there etc...

I just want a guy that has a proven CNC program for the RB26DETT head with bench flow results. As for all the other bits n bobs a local machinist can do all the rest of the valve train installation and I would provide parts etc....

Need to find someone the a up to date Serdi machine and a RB CNC program with flow results to back it up.

Easy said then done.

well. actually Thornleigh cylinder heads in sydney that do our machining do have cnc for head porting and have done a whole heap of required calcs and testing to support. They aren't internet-y types so it would be best to call Anthony directly on 02 9875 5048

interesting to see if the proengines guys went ahead with this, but I'm wiling to guess not because we would have heard about it by now

No they dont, all their head porting is done by hand

Their cnc is a cnc mill, not a 5 axis machine as Nas said they simply dont have the room or the time. Still a pretty flash but of gear.
