The subwoofer I have has a built in amp.

If I buy an amp to power my speakers, how do I wire that up?

Can I just split the power and the REM and connect one to the sub and one to the amp, or do I need to run two power cables, and two REM cables?

Thanks.

really depends on how much power you want to run and what sort of power cable you have running, what are you looking at getting put in and what size is the amp you are looking at and the sub you have?

the sub is a little 8" in a tube

like some kinda bazooka sub

its not very powerful

the amp im looking at getting will probably be 400-500 watts

so the REM cable doesn't matter much? it's more the gauge of the power cable?

what happens with the fuse as well?

yeah, the REM cable is just the remote wire from the head unit telling the amps to turn on when the head unit is on, the power wire is the one you need to make sure will run enough power through it...

what size fuse is it and what is the gauge of the power wire?

if the wiring was some sort of amp wiring kit package thing or similar then the fuse etc should be okay to run it, something like 8gauge or higher...mine runs 4 gauge with a 60amp fuse at the front...

Yeah, I might just buy a new wiring kit for a high powered amp I guess.

I'm not sure what gauge the wires are, it's red, that's all I know :)

I might just get JB to install it when they do the alarm I guess

the easiest way to wire up the two amps is to run one wire which is at least 6 but better to be 8 gauge from the battery + to your preferable 60 amp fuse and then continue that thicker wire into the cabin and wire it into a power splitting box, you can get stackes of em from jb or whatever they just a metal conductive box with plasic around it and u screw the wires in, you can put the one feed from the +12 into it and then 2 wires out, these wires dont have to be as thick as the original wire but i would suggest at least 6 gauge, wire these two +12 wires into your different amps, then run sepparate ground wires going to different spots for both the amps, and with the REM (remote) wire run it from the headunit into the first amp and then connect it up to the 2nd amp, it doesnt matter isf it runs in parrallel or series it only used to tell the amps to turn on, with four rca's if u have frt rear and sub out, run the frt n rear out's to the amp with the speekers and the sub out to the sub ect if not use splitters, hopefully this helps you AND SAVES SOME MONEY

i run two amps, i have one cable for each amp coming from the battery, different size and an appropriate fuse for each amp.

for the earths i have used the same size as the power cable back to the battery.

i dont like the splitter boxes because if you have a system that draws a fair amount of current, its good to have good joins between cables, such as clamping them down in the battery terminals (proper ones not the original jap ones!) whereas the splitter boxes only have a small contact area and dont clamp down very well.

if you have a smaller system(sounds like u have) it wont matter so splitter box will make things a bit easier :P

    • As an ex-skyline owner Going off how these things are now "modern classics", I would keep the twins and just "refresh" bits that are required for reliable power and have a car you can take out for a cruise whenever you get the itch As a idiot who cannot leave things alone Going deep into the "rabbit hole" is a easy thing to do, as previously mentioned, once you start it becomes a slippery slope, wirh lots of supporting mods, and possibly rebuilds, and unless you have a bottomless pit of funds, the car can spend most of its life sitting in the garage,  broken, waiting for parts, or building more funds For a classic like a R32 GTR Basically, a reliable OEM+ refresh, that isn't a broken garage queen, is alot better than a car that you build, then break, then fix, then break again And it isn't just the engine you need to worry about, these beasties are getting on in age, and all parts are getting, and have got, expensive, the days of picking up cheap replacement engines and other driveline parts are well and truly over The funds not spent on going a single with quality parts, and with all the other other bits required to make it happen, could be spent on refreshing alot of other parts A wise man once said "If you cannot afford 2 GTR's, you cannot afford 1", I also believe he said this about 20 years ago when you could pick up a clean R32 GTR up for around $20k My advice for a R32 GTR (the one and only true Godzilla in my mind) is to think holistically about the whole car, the body, the power train, the suspension, the brakes, and the driveline SAU is a wealth of knowledge with decades of Skyline experience,  from stock, to OEM+, to modified to varying degrees, to full on or weekend or dedicated racecars, as well as full on money pits that rarely leave their garage Treat the old girl nice and give her what she deserves, you are a lucky man to own such a classic car
    • For that price you could buy the hypergear turbo (big fan as I run one) and the Haltech ECU..
    • +1 for the Elite 2500. Get some new knock sensors while you are at it (pretty cheap), look up the TAARKS Nissan knock sensor kit. You may also want to get new coils (R35gtr) while your at it (assuming your on stock ones), as they are a liability. Mine started right up and idled fine on the base map. Also go MAP over MAF, as said above, Haltech make this super simple right out the box. Another fanboy of DBW here, Outsider Garage from your neck of the woods make some nice conversion gear for the R33 (that’s where I got some of my gear from).
