Hey liner's,

What makes an 'M-Spec' an M-spec????? (not and, sorry!!)

Specifically for a 1995 GTSt (my car)..........

Is it the spoilers, skirts, tail fin, trim, performance enhancements...etc?

Can one simply tell by looking at it, smelling or tasting it?

(sorry about the crappy pic, if someone needs a few pics to help me out I will gladly then get off my butt and get them, to help you help me!!!!)

I thankyou in advance!

Mark.

to start with... your car's a "Type M" and not an "M Spec" (M Specs were only R34 GTRs) so that sorta makes this whole thread a little redundant :D

Well, that's me, redundant....I do drive a 95skyline!!!

Ok, to rephrase, what's a 'Type M', and is it any different to other 1995 GTST variants?

And thanks for straightening me out FM!!

Mark.

lights and trim......................dunno about the engine or suspension

All R33 GTS-T are 'Type M', there is no such thing as a non 'Type M' GTS-T. The confusion comes from the R32 GTS-T which came as a standard model or 'Type M' which came with some extras as standard.

i thought the type-m r33's where the ones that came with the sideskirts etc etc ?

And the red grille badge..No mech difference afaik.

It's what they call in the trade an svp (special value pack) good for boosting sales or running out old models to make way for the new model.

PlasticStan,

whys your profile got 'Type-M' in the car bit ?

Because that's what car I've got, along with everyone else with an R33 GTS-T, they are all Type M :D :D

Side skirts, larger front bumper etc, were optional extras available on any R33 GTS-T Type M.

There is apparently a difference. Cause i was lookin at some brochure. There is a ECR33 which is a Type M and non Type M. ER33 usually mean non turbo and the ER33 includes the RB20, but there is a turbo version for the ER33. The ECR33 usually mean turbo, there is a ECR33 which is the 2.5 non turbo, GTS25t and the GTS25t type-M. This was what i gathered from the japanese brochure. So i'm pretty interested to know what's the difference btw a Type M and non Type M. Before i got a skyline, i thought the difference btw the Type M and non Type M is the wheelbase width. Which i don't think is correct after seeing so many. Could it be the difference btw the trims and stuff? Options? EG: Viscous LSD and a normal LSD? I think i'll do a little bit of research after my exams ;)

E = RB25

C = HICAS

R33 = Marshmellows

ER33 is an R33 without HICAS, ECR33 is one with... it dosen't mean that they've got turbos or not. Although you usually had to buy a poverty model (ie N/A) R33 to get no HICAS as standard.

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
