Motor is a rb30det in a r32 gtst. Car runs pfc, 550cc inj. Q45 afm.....etc

Ok symptoms:

-Aircon just blows hot air, no matter what setting.

-Aircon Compressor makes bad whirring /rotating niose when aircon switched on

-Pulley looks to be vibrating slightly as it spins

-idle drops as it struggles to keep car idling

Does this sound like a bearing or something on the pulley thats probably shat it?

Or would it be something else on the front of the aircon, like the windings? Car hasnt blown any fuses though....

Looks easy to get at the windings here: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...Flanguage_tools

Anyone know what parts stuffed? The compressor, the clutch, windings, or the pulley?

Aircon wasnt touched when the 3lt went in, it was left connected, so i assume its got gas in it still...

I cant run the aircon diagnostics on the Pfc as well...i guess it wont run with the std ecu either as it has the 550cc inj, and q45 afm on it atm as well...

Any ideas?

with it only ever blowing hot air, is this something that only started recently, or every since you've owned the car? My 32gtst was imported a few months back and came over with this problem, as have have many other 32 owners I have spoken to.

There was a thread in the vic section a while back, where someone said that there is a plug behind the stereo/climate control, that isn't plugged into another plug.. which supposedly causes the hot air...

My situation: I bought the car knowing that 'AC compressor not good'.. when the car came over and I got to see it in the flesh, I noticed that for starters there was no belt running around the compressor and idler, and that where it connected to the crank pulley, there was a shitload of cooked rubber.... Upon further inspection, I noticed that the compressor span very freely (and looks like it has been replaced not too long ago after looking underneath the car).. but the idler had seized up... So I took the new idler off, popped out the old, seized bearing and got a new one for six dollars.. now the idlers back in and I've bought a belt but haven't put it on yet.. as I need to clean all that cooked rubber off the crank pulley with paint stripper... Upon taking the center console surround off, I noticed that there where several plugs that were unplugged and I couldn't find anything else (except for a few days later when I found it under the dash...grr).. I also noticed that an actuator seemed to be disconnected... SO this may well be the reason for the hot air...

Not this week, but the next, I'll have the belt back on and the system regassed, and I'll check plugs and stuff behind the dash.. I'll post back here if I remember..

In my case also, even when the climate control unit is turned off, freakin hot air still blows in.. To prevent this I leave the climate control off, but turn the recircultion thingy on and then wind the windows down.. So all air from outside is closed off at least...

I got a tenna on a siezed or about to seize compressor or buggered clutch. A/C diagnostics on the climate control aren't gonna tell you what's wrong. Take it to a mechanic or auto leccy who can look at it and then you'll know for sure.

No seriously, I haven't got a tenna.

Its only started to blow hot recently...

I did the aircon diagnostics mode (first time in the shade...duh :P)

I got everything ok. the sensors measured 30.4 / 34.5 / 26 / 24.5 the last two temps were going up, after i did the test again in the full sun...

I have to agree with 3lit3 3. Its got to be something to do with the actual compressor or clutch....

How do i tell which one?

When it is making the noise I assume it is coming from the compressor area. Get someone to switch the aircon on and off and watch the clutch on the front engage and disengage. The clutch will make a jingly rattle like bells when it is buggered. The compressor bearing or compressor itself will make a more grinding noise when it is buggered. I hope you can appreciate that it is a difficult thing to explain diagnose it. You kinda have to know what you are looking at. If the clutch itself looks to be vibrating like you say then that will be your problem and it can be replaced. If the pulley is what is vibrating then it is possible that the compressor has the fault.

Hope this helps.

The front of the pulley appears to wobble because there is a triangular plate on the front of it.

If the idle drops when it's on then the clutch windings aren't burnt out.

Depending on how bad the compressor noises are I'd say it's the most likely problem although mine rattles and whirs a bit and it still works well.

If you've had the centre console off lately make sure the cabin temp sensor hose was reconnected to the vent and the wiring plug was reconnected.

Mine was accidently left disconnected and the a/c only blew hot air until it was fixed.

Yes the idle drops when i put the air con on.

The noises are pretty bad...bad enought to say sheit that dont sound good...even from inside the car.

All hoses are connected (i always make sure to reconnnect stuff as i put it back toegether :))

So i guess that means its the compressor? Do i have to remove the whole thing?

What would be better - getting this one rebuilt, or putting a second hand one on?

 Gordo you must be one sweaty individual :D

Thanks for the info, I'm still deciding if I can be bothered to attempt fault finding or just pay the auto elec to do it. Might be the solenoid, might be the clutch, and simpler yet it could just be a gas leak. Meh. And to think the car is lugging all that weight around needlessly! I don't use ABS and the aircon is stuffed - my traffic light drag times are suffering ;)

For those interested -- and for the sake of propagating the guide in a few related threads so its easy to find with the search facility -- here is a guide for removing the windings in-situ on an R32 GT-R (I imagine its much the same across the R32 series and probably for 33s and 34s).

    • Um. No. Since Matt introduced the TIM it has become a lot easier to deal with the consequences of changing K for AFM and injector swaps. Then, tuning is a f**king doddle. No-one needs to know or care how many grams of air are flowing or any other bullshit. Need more fuel in a cell? Add more fuel. Need more timing in a cell. Add more timing. Need to adjust any of the other tables for warm up and so on? No harder than anything else. Sure - it's not an ECU system for starting from scratch on an arbitrary engine. But then.....it was never supposed to be, not recommended for, and almost never used that way. So.... On your engine, in particular, Nistune/Nissan OEM is about as sophisticated and difficult as banging 2 rocks together. Those ECUs are primitive and simple. There is nothing difficult there. I learnt Nistune from scratch, created new maps with extended axes, interpolated/extrapolated the original maps onto them and tuned my RB20 (basically the same ECU as your 26 ECU) all by myself, more than 20 years ago. And that was long before even TIM.
    • Set of knee pads for a R34. Will fit every model I think. Comes with everything except the rubber covers for the bolt holes. Still in great condition. You will need to drill holes to mount these or use double sided tape. I can do free shipping and will be shipping from the Netherlands with tracking.
    • Nistune needs something like an entire excel spreadsheet in which you build an abstraction layer that converts everything from real units you can actually measure into all of the various tables. The number of unexpected dependencies hiding in how the Nissan ECUs do math is a pretty impressive optimization trick for 8-bit MCUs but good god is it awful to actually work with in practice.
