Painting Intercooler

anyone who has painted there FMIC to a matt black...

did it need an under coat?

once painted, did it later peel?

especially the end tanks.

did the end tanks need a slight sanding before painting?

you would need an etch primer one would think .. give it a sand down with 400 wet/dry and a light coat of etch primer .. then spray it

Take it to an anodiser, should only cost $40-50.

does it restrict the airflow at all? im interested in doing this when i get 1...stealth etc.

after reading it, I've decided not to spray it for now.

it seems some person has seen extra inlet temps with each layer of paint on the cooler.

Yeah quick rub with 400 or even more should do the trick. Then I find just a can of simple Matt Black from somewhere like Autobahn does the trick. No peeling or flaking.... yet.

Whilst we're talking about it, can you effectively strip the paint off an intercooler? My car used to be white and the last owner had painted the cooler white also. Looks a bit weird on a grey car.

I've heard the pressure pack paint strippers aren't too bad - maybe if I sprayed it on, gave it a scrub with a rag, and the blew the rest of the stripper out with the airgun it'd work out?

Thinners and prepsol dude.. should work. And yeah if you've got access to an air gun... couldn't hurt.
