Surge Tank/swirl Pot

If i use an internal fuel pump and an external pump is it vital to have a surge tank?? I have a R32 gtst riser pump and an aeromotive A1100 external for my main pumpp for my R32 GTR. Cheers.

depends what you do with the car

Street driven, with the odd thrash round the hills, race up the motorway etc etc

so are these only necessary if the car is under hard turning etc where the fuel in the tank is surging front to back / side to side? Or are they more to do with the different flow rates of different sized fuel pumps?
