:P Have R32 GTR. When I'm cruising with no boost, usually on freeways, I'm finding that when I accelerate to pass a truck or car etc. the car seems to slip, like the clutch slipping. The revs go up, then it grips and the revs go down.

So here's my delemma, why when I thrash the living hell out of it on 1.1 bar is there is no slipping????????

I have a triple plate clutch. Could heat in clutch be making it grip; or heat in Attessa system making traction work though the front wheels?

I have not changed the attessa automatic fluid for longer than I remember (IN fact never since i got it from Jap, bad hey, didn't know it was there till now. Done all other things). Can revs be lost in attessa system, sending torque to front wheels???

Any ideas anyone.....

mine does that some times when i turn sharp corners that go up hill, i hear the wheels slip and the attessa needle goes up, and the car seems to bog down. But when i'm playing i don't realy notice the car bog down when the rears slip.

btw you stole my handle :P

what does the front torque gauge show when this occurs?

if it was loss of traction then it should bounce up a little when attessa transfers power to the front. but it sounds like clutch slip if its going up and then down a little.

This slipping that's accuring is not accuring under any harsh acceleration. It happens after being at the same revs for a while, usually while crusing on the freeway. Then when half throttle is applyed thats when it happens. There is no loss in traction because there isn't enough power.

Thats the reason i don't think it is the clutch. It usually doesn't happen a second time for a bit, till i cruise again and after 3 mins or so.

dude, i been around longer than u, savman is mine :( nah, my last name is savage, hence savman.

You could have 1kw and if the clutch is stuffed it will do what you are describing. Its something in the driveline between the engine and wheels thats slipping (hence the engine speed going faster than the car actually is), and the only real part in there that can cause these symptoms is a clutch.

If your clutch is wearing out, you will notice it slipping in 4th and 5th gear first. When mine was on the way out, it took about 3 months of driving around with 4th and 5th slipping for it to start slipping in 2nd and 3rd.

Exactly, it sounds like clutch. ATTESSA won't allow what you are describing, as the rear tailshaft is constantly driven via the gearbox regarless of what ATTESSA tells the front wheels to do. The only variable is the percentage of front drive governed by ATTESSA. So if she aint wheelspinning, the clutch is slipping!

The ATTESSA system can be disabled by pulling a fuse. Symptons of its failure are that there is little or no torque transfer forward - despite what the gauge is telling you. Mostly this will give you bulk oversteer - you should be able to feel the front wheels pulling the car back into line if the system is fully operational.

Unless you have a serious lack of rear end grip you won't be getting wheelspin in third or even fourth in a straight line. Which suggests clutch. To allay you fears about the ATTESSA system, get a mate to drive alonside & keep a lookout for wheelspin.

Just as a side note - I had my car feel like it was slipping once and it was a basic ATTESSA problem. The the boot of the GT-R's on the drivers side there is a little bottle inside a small compartment. That was below the minimum level line. I topped it up with ATF and the problem was solved. No harm in looking into that 1st.

I just had that yesterday. For about the last week, whenever I started my car from work (and only work - weird, perhaps coz I park in the sun and things were getting hot? Dunno...) my 4wd light would come on and wouldn't go off unless I turned the car off and re-started. I was at a driving arvo yesterday, and when i went out on the track I noticed that around all the corners my front torque guage was on 0 (it is only a sprint track, but still), and under acceleration the guage wasn't showing what it normally did. That whole run the car felt like a rwd.

Luckily I had stopped and bought some ATF (I got genuine nissan, just incase it was a special blend) on the way, topped up the reserviour in the boot as it was about 2 inches below the minimum line. Next run felt a little bit better and the run after that it seemed to be back to normal. The min and max lines are only 1cm apart though which seems a little....silly!

    • It only looks tidy, as most of the stuff that was on the whole back wall, is now in the trailer to go to the tip, or has been shoved in my 2.2x2.4m "Spare parts room", and now I can't get to anything in there Ha ha ha I could definitely do with a bit more space, but I'd just end up with your problems I'm going to enclose the car port beside the garage, and move a lot of stuff into it I think. OR... It will be setup as a fabrication area, and the main garage will have parts storage in it. I'm not sure yet... Need some pictures of that big shed you've got with the bikes and Skyline in
    • No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.
    • Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.
    • @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
