Rims Hitting Shocks

hey guys,

was told that 18 x 10 with offset +38, tyre size 265 would fit on my rear R33 GTS-t (lipped). But when i had put them on, the rims seem to be rubbing against my shocks, as there were fresh marks on them. Can anyone please suggest any reccommendations in helping me solve this problem?

get rims with correct offset...

you can get bolt-on spacers, which make the wheel sit further out. but they're not technically legal

Id suggest spacers, but u may need to get ur guards flared so they atleast "look" legal if ya catch my drift.

It seems that whoever advised you of this fitment for an R33 GTS25t was talking about the maximum you could fit in the perfect conditions.

Spacers that bolt to the hub are at least 12mm wide, but usually more like 15mm i order to be strong enough so that they don't snap .. obviously this would make the wheels stick out a lot further and almost certainly have clearance issues on the outside.

I am assuming from your post that it's not rubbing too badly to make a lot of noise or to be undrivable - if it's only just rubbing enough to leave a mark on the shocks after driving around, then you might only need to get a few mm more clearance .. one way to do this might be to look go to a 255 width tyre or look at another brand of 265 as there can be a different in 'real' width of up to 10mm between brands.

On the other hand if it's rubbing badly on the tyre or it's actually the rim that's hitting then you need to look at other options.

Also don't forget that you might just be able to adjust a little camber out of the rear depending on how it's currently set up.

its not the tyres that are hitting the shocks, its the actual rim

If i take a corner at low speeds you can hear a pretty loud thump noise everytime. At the moment i am taking precautions and not driving the car until i believe it is drivable. I'm thinking of putting 7mm spacers on the car. As you were saying anymore more than that will have clearance issues (by that i mean its more likely to be pulled over). Is choosing 7mm spacers a wise idea or should i be thinking about larger ones, say 10mm? Are the spacers $85 each? Never knew they cost an arm and a leg.

I have 10inch rears with 265's on the back of mine +38 offset and they fit without any rubbing.

$85 seems a bit pricey, they should definately not be that much, if memory serves my local tyre guy said if i had clearance issues he would chuck on some spacers for free as they cost bugger all
