This is how I see it, if you are lucky enough to have a ten second car & you want to run it at the drags & have it road legal in NZ( IS IT THE SAME IN AUS) you can't= ten second cars have to have I full cage= cars with cages have to have a low volume cert before they can be woffed= you can't get a low volume with a cage in the front & bolt in cages are no good for tech inspection so you can't take it in & out to get a wof !

as for a nine second car ( yes I know that's a big call ) it has become even tougher in a GTR because you have to have to have a steel bell housing, unfortunately gtr boxes including hollenger & giken sequential' s have alloy bell housing's & you can't just change the bell housing to steel because it also incorperates the gearcase, imagine the cost of a custom made job- fark

ANY GOOD IDEA'S ?

i thought you just have to have a shield around the bell housing. so the existing alloy one stays you just create a shiled around it. perhaps even allowed to run a ballistic blanket in place of that? but yes having a fully street legal 9 second GTR will be tough.

You can run a welded four point bar instead of a roll cage, good down to 10.000. You keep your Holinger gearbox and use an SFI spec ballistic blanket. Problems solved.

you obviously haven't been to VIC then. as long as you aren't caught driving an illegally modified car on the street, you can re-register the car without ever having it sighted. Technically meaning it only has to ever be inspected once in its life before becoming a purpose built track car. Just make sure you pay your rego every year (none of this blue, pink, green, orange and purple slip crap like in NSW) and you've got a "street registered" top fuel drag car with number plates, rego sticker and the paperwork... who cares that it was once registered as a VW beetle.

"fully street legal"

That's a tough one, I am looking out over a ~40 staff car park and I reckon 90% of the cars aren't "fully street legal".

Several of them have illegal tyre depth

Quite a few have non OEM tow bars

Lots have non standard wheels

Half a dozen have non OEM roof racks

A couple have non genuine mud flaps

All the Commondoors have at least one brake light not working

A few have non OEM mufflers

A couple of the utes have non OEM roll bars

Two have non OEM spoilers

All of the 4wd's have non OEM bull bars

etc etc

In fact, if I looked really hard I reckon I could find something not "fully street legal" about almost every car in the car park. That's the real problem, one man's "legal" is another man's "highly modified".

:( cheers :(

Hmm. Intersting MrBlonde. I'm currently contemplating cage construction, and I like the sound of that.

Explain when you have a moment?

Cheers

Sean, it's right there in the rule book. You can run a four point rollbar instead of a six point cage, in a sedan down to 10.000.

RTA and highway patrol are much more accepting of a rollbar than a rollcage.

Excellent. I shall consult my rulebook.

Thanks

Sean, your car isn't street registered anyway is it?

Why not go the whole hog, there's a 9 in that thing of yours anyway with a decent launch (or so close you'll chase it anyway), why do it by half and then have to do it again.

And the Police/RTA/powers-that-be will still yank the import/sports car/insert name of favorite car brand here because it's got a boost guage or something equally criminally outrageous in sight...

Where are the Rozzers when the early model Fawd/Commondoor with all the above listed "features",full of rust and an unrestrained child peering out the back window at your 'Line roars past(hole in the 'zorst,y'see)at 130 kp/h an a 100 zone as you try and do the right thing to stick to the limit for fear of the rubber glove treatment?!?

Sorry...got a bit carried away...Rant over!

Yes she's registered - but is it legal, and do I drive it on the road much? Nooooooo.

I agree-a street legal 10 or 9 second car is practically impossible. Passing emissions laws alone would be the killer-let alone everything else...

Hmm-You're probably right chops. I was having a look at the rulebook last night and I think that a full cage would be wise. Considering the car was far from running at it's potential on the 10.45, and I can't even drive it properly yet, the probability that it'll go under 10.00 is pretty high.

I think that I'll also be going for a parachute mount at the same time so (only 3mph off now) it's all there when I need it-and for when I go to a bigger turbo (seriously :) )
