Hi all

Looking at a 3" turbo back for a R34.

Would like some help or advice about a good system.

Requirements:

- good power gain

- quiet

- preferably non canon muffler (twin tip muffler / oval muffler with tip would be nice)

I was looking at getting BATMBL's split dump and maybe one of his cats or a magic cat (Whats better?). A jap branded cat back would probably be on the list too. Unfortunately most of them are canon style mufflers.

However I would like the exhaust to be as quiet as possible as I am not a big fan of loud exhausts.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I don't think you can go past CES's system. I didn't get one from them and I know my car is very loud (but very unrestricted). Mine is just a 3" split dump pipe system with hiflow cat, hotdog resonator and cannon (with removable silencer makes it much quieter).

The CES system that a few people have bought comes with a 3" split dump pipe system with cat, resonator and a twin tip magnaflow muffler and it is much quieter and doesnt have the annoying drone. And because of the research etc that CES has done, they are pretty good flowing too (not too restrictive and dyno proven).

If you want quiet, the Fujitsubo ones are known to low noise and also don't have a cannon tip.

The Stagea guys seem to like it:

What cat do you guys recommend?

- 3" Magic Cat with 4" body (rated pretty highly by people here and come with bolt on optionm no idea what the flow rating is) ~ $300

- 3" big body BATMBLS Catco cats? (seem to be the highest flowing 706cfm with bolt on option) ~ $440

- Metal Cat

And when they say bolt on, does that mean the cat will bolt on fine inbetween teh dump pipe and the cat back exhaust?

I found this quote on a website:

"(Catco) 706CFM FLOW RATE with the 3" piping! NOTHING else comes close, since the 3" Metal CAT flows 629CFM and the 3" Magic CAT (with the 4" body and 3" cone reducers welded to it) flows 540CFM. All 3 CATs were independantly tested at the same site on the same machine."

Hmm kinda confused now as different people say different things.

What do you guys rekon of a Fujitsubo twin system like the one below:

Pipes are smaller, and more bends, but 2 pipes. How would it compare to other single pipe quiet cat back systems?

And is the layout for the R33 cat back systems the same as the R34? I was wondering whether I could buy a cat back for a R33 so it would fit the 34?

Yeha kinda interested in the CES magnaflow system too, purely because I can get a twin tip muffler (quite like the look)

Unfortunately, its pretty much the same price. I suppose with the CES system I wont get as much R&D as the Fujitsubo system. I hear fujitsubo make one of the best exhausts out there and well its proven I';d say.

CES have yet to make a system for a 34 I think.

CES have fitted a few R34's with systems (owners here on the forums). All I can say in terms of the difference between a very high flowing loud system and a CES System is volume by a lot on the outside and pretty much no drone on the inside. The performance when considering relatively stock cars is negligble.

I mean if R34GTX's 7 month year old baby can sleep the whole way through a cruise up and down hills, I'd say its quiet.

On that note though, if you are planning serious mods, you may want to consider a more expensive or freer flowing system like the more expensive jap brands OR, get a cheap high flowing system with whatever tips you want and get an Apexi Exhaust Controller Valve (electronic costs a bit more than the lever operated one). That way you can have an easily switchable system. Not 100% on the legality though.

Some R34 GTT or R34 GTX-T's came with an exhaust volume control (only 2 or 3 settings though) from the factory.

I guess the question is for $1200 would you buy a CES system or a Fujitsubo?

The only thing I know of at the momment is that I like the CES twin tip, other than that, I think the Fujit wins in terms of performance, build quality etc.
