Hey,

Just curious who in here has gone from a s13sil (sr20de) to a fairly stock R33 Gts-t.

Im keen to hear your views on the pros and cons about the transition. Good and bad points ie. From increased bills on x,y,z to things which are nicer, or even small annoyances you noticed in the s13 or r33.

Look forward to your comments.

G'Day

Can't say I've owned either of those specific cars but my mate had an S13 SR20DE and I currently have an R32 GTST. The build quality of the Skyline of the same era seems to be a bit better in most cases than the Silvia. Just take a look at the interior of the Silvia Q and compare with a Skyline of the same vintage. The Silvia my friend owned also had quite a lot of mechanical/electrical issues for a non-turbo import.

The Skyline is a lot faster than the non-turbo Silvia too- there's the major advantage. Only drawback is the extra petrol expenses and maintenance, turbo parts etc. Can't really fault the Skyline if you come across a clean example- they generally won't give you much trouble. A GTST just feels like a much better car, more stable/better built etc.

Regards

Paul

I went from a CA18DE silvia to an RB25DET R33. and i must say i never looked back. obviously its more expensive to run, but for the performance/comfort gain it is well woth it. The R33 feels firmer on the road, much nicer to drive on freeways/open roads, heaps more room inerior wise, and much more. The only thing my S13 had over the 33 was that it was lighter and handled noticably lighter, thats about it.

two weeks ago i went from my sr20de auto silvia to my 1995 R33 gts25t. the handling in the skyline isnt as good as the sil but in every other aspect the skyline is a far better car. i also get about the same km's to a tank. mods to the skyline include a trust cat back exhuast and a pod. the silvia is now for sale for anyone who wants a project.

the r33 handles just fine. sure its a bit heavier, but mine has practicaly no body roll, the hicas is great when u need to over correct, and to push it to its limits u have to go insanely fast.

Also great on the freeway, low level interior noise, and those sweeping curves are awesome!

I dont know about you guys, but my r33 gts non turbo out handles my mates club q's sr20de silvia in every single way... I had 4 people in my car, though im riding on kmac springs, pedders shocks and i dont have hicas and i absolutly flogged my mate who was driving his club q's sr20de s13 by himself through rounder bouts and every other turn we made. The r33 is a much nicer car to drive imo, and is like everyone else has said, much larger inside.. and an upgrade in many many other ways. Sure the s13 feels lighter in steering no doubt, but no way handles as good as the r33 on the road. And this is going from someone who has driving both cars to full potential in real life situations.

i cant believe your comparing a sr20de to an rb25det.. the 33 is so much better in every aspect.. i can only think of the s13 winning over the 33 in one scenario which would be in drift..

And if the s13 had an rb20 with some mild work done to it along with the r33 having some mild work done to it but no fmic installed.

like that night, remember :P

i cant believe you guys are comparing a non turbo car to a turbo car.. i've driven a sr20de silvia.. a sr20det silvia.. a rb20det silvia, a r33 gtst and a r32 gtst in my opinion a well setup skyline is like a boat compared to a well setup s13 for handling in any way sure a r33 handles better than my s13 how ever mines not setup for handling :D how ever.. my mates 180 is and it absolutely destroys me thru tight weavy turns

but as for comparing a NON TURBO silvia to a turbo skyline.. thats just f**king stupid

hmmmz, i think he didnt mean to compare non turbo to turbo. i think he wants to compare the s13 to the r33. if you want a newish feeling car that sticks to the road and has good performance then i like the r33 but if you want to throw yourself in cornors, drift, performance and feel like a real jap sports car then i like the s13...

but remember the sr20det and the rb25det on stock internals handle about the same power... but the rb25det is going to squeeze that little bit more but the s13 is lighter so it makes up for it.

Mate sr20/rb20s can run 300rwhp on standard internals, rb25s can do 400rwhp on standards, the Skylines extra weight still wont matter with 100rwhp more! (Unless we talking drift then the s13 wit 300rwhp will probably still be easier to drift lol)

And how can u say s13 feels like a real Jap performance car becoz of its chuckability? The GTR Skyline is Nissans real performance car and weighs in at more than the GTSTs.. so I dont think ur comment is really fair but we are all allowed our opinion of course :D

Personally i owned an s13 (180sx turbo) and went to an R32 GTST, the Skylines build quality is just far far better. Funny enough my 32 handles alot better (due to coil-overs) and weighed in less than my mates 180 (1220kgs compaired to 1260kgs neither cars stripped etc). The R33 is similar to the 32, very nice car to drive much more stable on the freeways etc however the 33 does loose abit in the handling department to an s13 and r32, doesn't loose any straight line speed due to the increased capacity (rb25) though. The 33 interior is probably abit nicer than the 32 (more spacey) and obviously WORLDS apart from an s13s batpoo interior! Brakes on a Skyline are also much much better than an s13 DET (which are better than n/a s13 of course).

Your going to be a very happy boy going to the Skyline, its a decsion i made now will never go back from :P

i agree with what youve said and would choose an r32 between r33 and 180sx. but two of my close mates have r32's and another mate on the way with one. i really like the r33 because of its quality but i sorta want chuckablity and drift so im abit bias

but if i had a choice id get a r33 for drag and cruiser and an s13 for more of a track car...
