noise
I have heard from someone in the service station industry that caltex vortex in WA is the exact same fuel as BP ultimate. From the same place and exactly the same grade etc. Discuss... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/95877-caltex-vortex-bpultimate-98ron/ Share on other sites

ossie_21
Over east people can choose from 4 98ron fuels *at least* that I know of. But in the first post he said "Caltex Vortex IN WA", not just vortex anywhere. JH32
Yup, don't think you can get vortex 98 here I worked at Caltex when I was at uni and they definitely didn't have it then. That was only 3 years ago that I left Caltex and I haven't seen it since. noise
What I am saying is that the vortex here is BP ultimate. Its actually 98 ron bp fuel. The reasoning this guy gave me for caltex not calling it vortex 98 is because the real ron figure can be anywhere between 95-98. BP dont care that its often lower then 98, but caltex promise it to be atleast 95, hence the 95 ron rating. I still find it all a little wack, were the catlex premium pumps running out at the same time as BPs? Josh
probably... I don't use vortex over here(because of its lower RON) so I wouldn't know... Patto-
Sounds like bs to me. BP has 95ron fuel as well don't they? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/95877-caltex-vortex-bpultimate-98ron/#findComment-1735598 Share on other sites

Patto-
Here is some other things people have heard, or know: i heard somewhere that Vortex 98 is just re-badged Optimax...... vortex 98 is coming out of the distillation at over 100ron and then is blended down to met specs.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/95877-caltex-vortex-bpultimate-98ron/#findComment-1735610 Share on other sites
Miller the hoon
It is only BPs 95ron preium fuel if it was 98 it would be the same price but in wa all 95ron is suppost to b bp anyway and 98ron ultimate it that and bp only sell it james Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/95877-caltex-vortex-bpultimate-98ron/#findComment-1735631 Share on other sites
Daniel_
I used vortex when there was no ultimate and some caltex's were running out. Attendant said that they wouldn't have any until middle of december, thought it was a bit of a coincidence that it was the same time ultimate was meant to be back. Maybe our vortex is just ultimate that's been cut with lower grade fuel to make it 96 ron. Rhianne
as far as i know it all comes from the same refinery and it was all the "premium" fuels that were running out, only unleaded was still being produced... SKY 34
I've visited Dulux factory and apparently they manufacture competitors paints as well (a specificed ingredients list is provided by the compititor), because it is relatively expensive to buy the machinery, so competitor just 'piggy back' of Dulux...this is why even though more ppl chose to buy rather cheaper generic brands, Dulux never went bankrupt... imagine that there is only 1 refinery in W.A....so the companies, BP, caltex, other fuels basically come from the same spot, only that different companies have their own "secret ingredient" such that the refinery have to refine these petrol according to the clients specification. now what if the refinery is owned by BP....BP will process fuel for the competitor..and the competitor sell cheaper fuel ... However, BP needs to keep it's image up..and hence they produce the only 98 Octane Fuel in W.A....BP domination...muahhaha probably in the case of Eastern State, the amount of population is enough for each individual companies to set up their own refinery and keep it profitable...therefore 4 different 98 octanes to choose from... BP does not dominate the market anymore.... This checks out with the unavailabity of vortex in the same timing as Ultimate...but then again I might be wrong...don't have the fact sheets on me....
