Hi everyone

I just installed an oil temp guage and was wondering what the normal oil temp should be while just driving around, ie crusing. With an oil cooler I should add. Today on the way to work was my first test and the guage barely moved from 40 deg (the lowest value). At first i thought i had wired it up incorrectly. Though after filling up the car I got back in and the guage read 60 deg. Then as soon as I start driving it went back down to 40 deg.

Does this sound like a normal temperature? Sounds low.

Weird

that is way too low.

The temp on a gtr sits around the 80 degree mark, which is very similar to water temp. then with a cooler once you get up and moving, it can vary between high 60's and high 70's depending on how hot it is, how fast you are driving, etc.

But ideally it should sit around the water temp mark unless you are giving it

Oil takes a long time to get up to coolant temp .If you only drive short distances it will never get up to normal temp .

If you drive it hard it will get a lot warmer than coolant temp and it depends on how hot the ambient temp is .

it sounds like your oil cooler is doing too good a job on the street. There are two options, one is to fit an 'oil-stat' or you can simply block off all or part of the core (just use a pice of sheet aluminium) for street duty, then remove it when you do drifting. ideally your oil should be above 70 degrees, but 80-90 is good. 40 or 50 is too low.

That was during the cooler periods

With the oil cooler, not once have i seen the oil temp hit over 90 degrees.

Prior to this, it would rise to about 95-100 or so degrees after a long highway journey (1hr+), continous revving @ 3k in 5th. Now, it goes down to around the low 70 degree mark

Oil pressure gauge at idle is close to 2, bit of throttle gets it up to around the 3 mark and the highest i think ive ever seen it is around the 4 mark

I actually think my oil temp guage is not working. Its a crappy Auto Gauge brand. The needle wobbles about all over the place. I guess thats what you get for buying a $30 guage. Gonna test it with a jug of hot water. If it doesn't give me a real reading its going in the bin.
