A search didn't give me what i wanted to know so i'll ask :P.

I'm looking for a decent diff for my S13, mechanical 1.5 or 2 way is preferred of course. Now i've come accross an R32 GTR diff, axles and rear hubs. This would seem perfect since i want to go 5 stud at the rear anyways so i want some info on the parts.

Is the R32 GTR diff a clutch pack type and how many 'ways' is it?

Are the half shafts unique to an R32 GTR (ie if i snap one will i have to replace with a GTR part because of unique spline count etc)?

Will it bolt up to a Silvia after swapping the rear covers (looks like it will)?

What is the diff ratio?

Im not an expert, so someone will correct me. I beleive they are a hlsd. There is no "way" in which they operate, but its similar to a 1 way. There are no clutches in it, only gears.

Ususally you do need the half shaft it came with, dont worry as they are strong (ever heard of a gtr snapping one?)

If you put the centre in your housing, with the halfshafts, and axles, you can retain the ratio you have now...(which is the other option i was looking at for my car -s13 ratio with gtr running gear)

i think there were a few different diffs that came standard / options with r32 gtr's

I remember reading some people had mechanical lsd's stock, and some were viscous.

What is the price of that diff you've found? kaaz 1.5 or 2ways can be had for around $1,100 or a second hand one for $600 or so.

contact, www.garage-13.com I know alex has a couple of second hand mechanical diffs lying around for a very good price

They also specialise in 5-stud conversions for s13's, so they can let you know what you'll need.

Ah k, a helical or viscous isn't of much interest to me, i'll see if i can get a photo of the centre, it'll be easy to tell then.

Did they ever come with a clutch pack centre? Being a hipo car i thought they might have gotten a clutch pack in em.

- All r32 GTR LSD's are clutch pack to my knowledge. It's possible there may have been other centres used, but FAST indicates they were all clutch type. Not sure about the 'way' thing, my interpretation of the design of the stock centre is it's 2-way.

- I believe the bolt spacing might make them 'unique' but I've found halfshafts are interchangable between R200's (believe it or not S15 halfshafts fit 260Z R200...and vice versa). The exception is viscous LSD's which have a unique design.

- rear cover should swap over no problem, but also consider whether the tailshaft attachment is the same (should change over anyay).

- 4.1

Cool, the number of 'ways' of the diff is pretty easy to tell by eye (from the angle of hte 'ramps' that actuate the clutches), i'll work on getting a photo of the guts of the thing. Since it comes with Shafts and hubs i guess thats not really a problem and the tailshaft flange is most likely the same but can be swapped with my current viscous diff if need be.

Thanks :P

no GTRs come with a viscous diff, they are all a mechanical LSD. 2 way.

Thats ok, my last drifter had a stock long nose clutch pack LSD that was loose to, i found it quite fine to drift with since i was applying enough torque to lock it up nicely :P.

EDIT: i bought it now, we'll see how it goes :P.
