this is a good read

got a gcg hi-flow rb25 turbo going on my r32 now

other mods include 550cc injectors and powerfc and the usual kinda shit

i'll watch this thread and post results when/if i get them

our cars sound similar apart from PFC, would be good to see the differance

  • 2 weeks later...

man my engine must be buggered or sumthin...i have a high flowed turbo (not a GCG) but loooks exactly like it, and im only making 245rwhp and thats with tomei cams and 14psi and power fc....anybody know wat could be my prob?can i have a buggered head gasket? or could it be the rings?

wind it up the boost to 18psi or so.. it's probably the only way you'll get power out of it.. then it will be laggy and possibly kill an old engine. Sounds similar situation to my highflow rb25 (its running 16psi at the moment).. not the best match for rb20.

i wish i had that, ive got 253hp@22psi. RB20 hybrid, exhaust housing too small. new turbo here i come.........

sounds similar to mine..

nf: I think you'll make maybe 20% more power with raising the boost another 4psi or so... so thats quite a good result if you ask me.

may as well post up my chart as a point of comparison.

16psi on highflow rb25 turbo (rb20 actuator), k&n panel filter, 3" exhaust right thru, highflow cat, hybrid cheap front mount 450x300x75, turbotech boost valve, SAFC.. So seeing as mine is AUTO, and non-powerfc seems about in range with nF above by taking 20-30% off.

I don't think there was any temperature correction put in for the 32 degree day.. non-shootout .. So allowing 10-15%.. mine is about 150rwkw on any other dyno (probably feels about 150rwkw too).

A fair bit of blowby at 16psi exhibited in my engine, whereas was none at 12psi... so any more isn't a good idea in mine at the moment.

sorry don't have a scanner or camera here so i'll try describe

also graph doesn't have RPMs so someone might have to convert

in 3rd gear, peak power at 114km/h, made full boost by 82km

graph is a nice curve too :(

mods that are important:

- split dump

- splitfires

- iridium plugs

- k&n pod

- 3 inch full exhaust with a hi-flow cat (crowbar brand)

- the turbo is r33 gcg hiflow with i think the r32 actuator

- 550x100x76 intercooler

    • What ECU is on your car @silviaz? You can just change the idle target table yourself and the IACV duty cycle. Noting that if you play around with the screw you'll also need to revisit the idle base duty table as you will end up offsetting the lot. Another reason why DBW is superior, there's less mucking about.
    • Yep. Saw that on the image above but, wonder if it makes more sense to clean out the iacv because let's say in theory mine is dirty and if I clean it the rpm will drop. If I first go to my tuner to drop the rpm and then go to clean my iacv won't it drop further or is the rpm a fixed number?
    • Yeah it was a good result, and confirming the car is full of fluids and all interior etc in, other than fuel. I think a few pages back (maybe many pages!) he mentioned some serious lightening in the doors with the chassis punch, might have been done elsewhere I hadn't seen yet too
    • He still had the suspension dialled in for him! I would have sworn the lowest weight he ever got to was 1300kg though Maybe Neil had been drilling a LOT of holes somewhere you haven't found yet... 😛 Or has he also drained all the gearbox and diff oil out too, between it, and a tank full of fuel there's about 65kg to 70kg to add back in I'd guess. 😛
    • Yeah this isn't a super complex shape, but I was still happy to buy instead of fab version 1; very little in a modern can is a flat surface, and that is true here again - the undertray has about 50mm in height differences that I would have had to work out myself. I will probably make something more substantial before it does any rally, I don't think 1mm steel is too much use as a bash plate. There is also cooling to think about, Z1 have done a bit of development and have some air holes and louvers in the shape, will see how that works out too
