I own a R33 and unfortuantly i can tell you that all my bass is trapped in the F#$%in boot.

There is a 12inch sub in there i swear. Its just the metal plate that separates the boot and the back seats blocks my bass.

It used to sound good in my previous car. 8-(

Anyone got ideas on removing it or cutting holes in it to free the bass...

Thanks. :uh-huh:

if your sub box is ported then it won't sound as good as a sealed enclosure in your car.

at the moment i have an old pioneer 10" free-air in a sealed box (i know, i know, it's not designed for a box...) and it actually sounds a lot better than i thought it would.

which way is the sub facing? try facing it into the rear corners of the boot.

also make sure your boot is sealed properly.

Hmm, I suspect a better sub/subs and amp would make a huge difference.

I have 2xSoundstream Rubicon 300W with 1x600w earthquake amp.

There in the boot of the crx, which is in no way connected to the insided of the car.

More bass than you can poke a stick at....

you wouldn't want to that plate contributes to some of the structural stability of your car.

besides... bass should pass thru the metal plate with relative ease as its not a dampening material.

My mate just put a sub in his and found that removing the factory false wall that hides battery, it mabe a very noticable difference. He is fabricating a new cover.

Me personally i beleive in speed. SKYLINES are performance cars not BOOM boxes. And before you ask, I have decked out my company van (owned by the company i work for, but in my care 24/7) with a decents audio system, including a 12 inch Rockford Fosgate sub powered by a PUNCH series R.F. amp.

No need to upgrade my system. Its the pump.

It's just it sounded better in my Hot Hatch than it does in my GTS, I guess thats to be expected though.

Ive spent over 4k on it and its all Alpine with a 12" Kiker and 2 x Big Kenwood Amps so i dont think upgrading is the problem.

Ah ok.

Still, with that type of set up, it baffles me how you can ask where the bass is...

It's got me farked where your bass has gone. I have a Fusion fpw-1500 15" run by a Rockford Fosgate 250m2 monoblock amp, also in an R33. There sure as hell isn't any problems with bass with that, and it's in a ported box.

The Tool

Dunno what you mean by "a ported box won't sound as good in your car". Mine sounds fine, heaps better than my old sealed box, and is absolutely cranks with the low notes.

I put my old amp and sub into my 32 and was pleasently surprised at how well the sound travels through the metal sheet behind the chair. Not quite as good as my 180sx though but the equipment has aged and had a hard life since then so it may not all be the car. No way I would go to the effort of cutting out holes when it sounds perfectly fine facing the back of the car. Cutting holes or removing it alltogether is also illegal too as you are removing too much structural integrety of the car.
