ok, ive read just about every post about this subject on these forums.

now, here are my problems.

I believe the actuator motor for the air conditioning is faulty, I cant switch from hot to cold without going under the dash and help turn the motor.

Also it only works on the feet and for front demister, I cant get it to work out of the front vents.

i read somewhere to contact nissan about this motor, so i did. i contacted essendon nissan in melbourne and here is the response i was given:

I have had a look at the actuator for the R33 and found there are actually four on the heater. There is a mode actuator (mode normally means the change from feet to demist to dash etc.) and I think from your description this may be your prolem as far as changing modes goes. This part is available in Melbourne at one days notice. The price is $175 including GST. Being an import part this would need to be paid in full at time of order and there is strictly no cancellation or return on these parts.

the motor above the drivers left foot I think is the fresh air actuator which would change from fresh to recirculate or in other words block the outside air intake. This part is available from Japan with around 2-3 weeks delay. The price is $190 including GST.

There is also an actuator on the upper part of the fan or blower casing. This part is described as a air intake actuator and I am not sure exactly what this does as it seems by description to have the same job as the second one I mentioned. However where it is located doesn't seem to me to be able to block air intake from outside the cabin. This also would need to come from Japan and the price is $150

Also there is an actuator called air mix actuator. This may be related to your hot/cold problem but we do not work on import Skylines here and have no diagnostic equipment to suit them. I cannot therefore give you any advice regarding your fault code. This actuator is $190 and would also have to be ordered from Japan. All parts from Japan need to be paid in full at time or order and there is also no cancellation or return.

ok, thanx to that response, im more confused. i didnt know there were so many motors. what i need from you guys is to tell me which part/s i need to solve my 2 problems. i want to get this problem solved before it gets to hot as this is my 3rd year with this problem, :D

any help is appreciated

thanx

Ok well if it is one of your motors all you need to do is simply go to a wreaker and pick up any 12v motor assembly from side mirror or heater boxes etc..

Open up your suspect motor and chamge it over/solder it in the replacement one.

Perhaps before you do that take it to an autoelec and he can test the little motor.

I had an issue that after I changed my heater core the climate control would not swap from cold to hot without me helping.

Took out the motor from the drivers footwell and off to an auto elec to get it checked.. It was fine.. Very odd..

The auto elec suggested the issue was that the small flap that locks the pivot rod in the passenger footwell was secured back to front.

I did not believe this would make a difference. But I took the auto elecs advice and it seemed to make the difference.

thanx for the response. i might give that a try, replace the motor itself with another.

im 100% sure (ok 99% sure) that the motor that goes on top of the heater box up near the top of the dash is the one i need to fix the problem i have with not being able to switch to face vents.

as for the hot to cold problem, the only way i can get it to switch it to say go from cold to hot with the arrows (say to 32 degrees) the motor under the dash near the drivers left foot starts clicking and by looking at it, it looks like it doesnt have the strength to turn the pivot handle to switch it to hot by pulling or pushing on the pivot rod.

i wish i could just take it to someone in melbourne that is experienced with this sort of thing and can tell me for sure instead of me just guessing.

I forgot to mention the motor that your having problems with the face vents one is now staring to click its arse off on my car..

Damm climate control..

Can't be stuffed pulling the dash out again so I will wait till it fails.

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
