Exactly, I had a lightened flywheel in my car, it shit me on the street, when going slow, couldn't go below 2000rpm without the car shuddering/labouring.... im back to a stock flywheel now.

You must have had a dodgy one.

It's a shame because a good one has absolutely NO downsides as far as driving around town is concerned.

Next time try a better brand. I found the Ogura chromemolly units (4.8kg) work mint for RB's. Excellent ballance.

Always sad to hear when someone gets something substandard.

On topic again....

Group buy wise I shall make inquiries now for something that will end in late Jan early Feb?

We will see if we can get a target price just below the $2k mark delivered if that is possible. Its already a bargain I think as it is but, if we can get a few more guys on board we might get it a little keener on the price.

My car has a lightened flywheel - it's nice to drive overall, I wouldn't really fault it, except with the air-con on, in second gear (or higher), braking, the car often stalls. But, the engine feels much, much smoother. It doesn't whinge much at high RPM.

obviously the tailshaft has nothing to do with the drivable nature of the car other than the fact that the carbon units actually eliminate more harmonics, therfore making things much smoother potentially.

I think we should have the 'flywheel' debate on a different thread althogether.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but doesn't the 350z come standard with a carbon fibre driveshaft? The pro's being the lighter weight, and if it snaps in any place it shatters rather than spearing as metal would (read:safer).

It'd be nice if these could some how be modified to fit, although being a genuine nissan item, it would probably work out to be more expensive than the aftermarket.

I have an OS Giken flywheel on my GTR and an Exedy on my S15.My S15 kicks and bucks, its downright horrible, the GTR is as smooth as hell, both cars use twin plates.

I'm in for this group buy.

That explains it. I had an exedy. :ban:

I wasn't going to post this while the topic was still hot but what effect would this have with an auto?

How does the info we have about lighter flywheels translate/compare to autos?

With the auto you are going the opposite in some ways with the torque converter.

I'm noticing lately the weight of my car and will be looking at different wheels - at least for the track if not the street - but have found this discussion interesting.

sounds like you did not bed in the exedy clutch correctly. Fly wheel has got nothing to do with it. Both fly wheels are balanced from the factory. I've driven R32 GTR with exedy twin and mine has OS tripple. Both were not great until bedded.

I am keen on the GB as well.

we will have to start the group buy soon with a long wait period so people can save up the $$$$$$ i guess we will need 15 plus people to get a good saving rev210 was looking at it but i will give them another call and see if we can get that price down

Ok I thought I had better get this thread back to the forefront again as I am put in the position of spending my cash on a rebuild :/ instead of this lovely item for the time being.

I am happy to help someone who would like to take up the 'group buy' batton to introduce them to ACPT.

$2100 delivered is cheap.

As a side note you might be interested in the fact that Carbon fibre shafts are used by pretty much all Pro-Stock drag racers for the basic reason that their 60ft times and overall 1/4 mile times are faster.

PM me if you would like to get a group buy on the go.

Rev210

I'll be down for sure, but.. i beleive a custom one will be needed for me.

as i have thrown a 34gtr box into my 32 gtr, which from what i beleive will be a little shorter than the 32 one. i think from memory its a combo of a 34 and 32gtr shafts put together. but i can find out for sure when needed.

but it sounds good. as more response for circuit work is just what i am after for that little bit more edge

mashrock,

get your measurements together, perhaps email ACPT directly to get their requirements?

no worries i shall give it a go, i will need to go to the shop to get measurements tho as its gettin put in now.

will the group by go through? there seems to be a fair bit of intrest

    • I know this one’s the BB one. My tuner did make mention about the actuator. I am curious about the VCT as well
    • Might also needs a stronger actuator with the right preloading. With older 2019 built bush G3 units, BB upgrade or 21U housing down size makes a pretty decent gain in response as well.
    • Hey lads  so im finally putting together my rb30 forged bottom end and ran into an issue. I measured my main bearing clearance with arp main studs torqued to 60 ft-lbs using ACL H series STD size bearings and standard, un-ground crank shaft journals and got an oil clearance reading of about 1.3 thou measuring straight up and down and about 2.8 thou measuring at a 45 degree angle (just above and below the parting line). My machine shop said they measured the main tunnel and it was all within spec (they didnt say the actual measurement) and to go with a standard size bearing, which i have done and the clearance is too tight, I'm guessing because of the extra clamping force from the arp studs distorting the main tunnel. I was wanting to run about 2.5 thou main bearing clearance.  My questions are: 1. could i just use the HX extra 1 thou clearance ACL bearings? that would fix my straight up and down clearance making it about 2.3 thou, but then would the side to side clearance be too big at around 3.8 thou? 2. what actually is the recommended main bearing clearance for measuring near the parting line / side to side. i know its supposed to be bigger as the bearing has some eccentricity built into it but how much more clearance should there be compared to the straight up and down measurement? at the moment there is about 1.5thou difference, is that acceptable or should it be less? 3. If i took the engine block + girdle back to the machine shop and got them to line bore the main tunnel (like i told them to do the first time, but they said it didnt need it) what bearing size would i buy? the STD size bearing shells already slide in fairly easily with no real resistance, some even falling out if i tip the girdle up-side-down. If im taking material out of the main tunnel would i need a bearing with extra material on the back side to make up for it? this is probably confusing af to read so if something doesn't make sense let me know and ill try explaining in a different way. My machine shop doesn't come back from christmas break until mid January, hence why i'm asking these questions here. TIA for any help or info
    • I bought the model back in Japan in Feb. I realised I could never build it, looked around for people who could build it, turns out there's some very skilled people out there that will make copies of 1:1 cars or near enough. I'm not really a photo guy... but people were dragging me in a group chat for the choice of bumper as someone else saw the car before it was finished as they are also a customer of that shop. I took the photo in the above post because I was pretty confident that the lip would work wonders for it. Here's some more in-progress and almost-done pics. It gives a good enough idea as to what the rear looks like!   I have also booked in a track day at the end of January. Lets all hope that is nothing but pure fun and games. If it's not pure fun and games, well, I've already got half an engine spare in the cupboard
    • Well, do ya, punk? Seriously though, let's fu<king go! The colour and kit looks amazing on the car. Do you have any shots from the rear? I don't quite follow how the model came around. You bought the white kit and he modified it to match your car? Looks nuts either way!
