Primordial
Hi guys, I've got a very noticable rattling in my rear suspension when going over bumps etc. I've got Apexi N1 Coilovers in there if that makes a difference. Does anyone know where I should start looking to diagnose/fix the problem? Baz
Look for worn bushes in the rear that would be a first place to start looking. Whiteline bushes arent that expensive and replacing bushes makes a hell of a difference. Primordial
Ah ok good thinking.. How many bushes are there that make up the rear suspension? Is it just the two or are the arm bushes as well do you know? GTRsean
how old are the coil overs. my ohlins at the front were making a rattling noise over certain bumps and it sounded like worn components but it was the shocks that were stuffed. Primordial
Uhm.. im not too sure. I bought the car a short time ago and it's got 60,000k's on the clock. So I guess they are between 5 and 55k's old Can shocks be screwed in that period of time? I guess they could! Mr Italy!
The on the clock KM's may not be accurate, remember a lot of imports have been tampered with before they enter the country. I've got N1's but havent noticed this problem as of yet. But on the subject of N1's, are they a particularly good set of coilovers? A mate told me that brand new they are worth like $2500 or something - is this about right? They seem to have a massive amount of thread which will come in handy when i can be bothered lowering them. Primordial
Yeah i do realise that. The 'line that I bought had immaculate interior and was mechanically beautiful, so I am guessing that if it was wound back, it wasnt by much! But the N1's are pretty good from what I have heard. Everyone says they are rock hard, but are a really nice shock handling-wise. Personally I dont think that they are that bad! I had a Supra which comes with bilsteins standard, which I found to be harder than the Apexi's! I guess it comes down to the setting of the damper rates too. They might be set unusually soft on mine? .. They are adjustable probably farther than your front bar will allow - good for those car shows i guess? MANWHORE
There are many bushes in the whole suspension system. There is a bush at the bottom of the shock. Bushes on the suspension arms. Bushes on the swaybars. Bushes absolutely everywhere. It could honestly be anything. It could be a slightly loose suspension bolt (Once, I forgot to do up the top suspension bolts tight enough, and it would make clunking noises. could be bushes. Could be shocks. If you work on your own car, then maybe inspect the shocks and look for oil leaks, check seals etc. If you don't feel confident working on your own car, try a suspensions place. Also, try listening out for where the noise comes from and what is making it. I know it sounds silly, but different problems make slightly different noises. Duncan
And its probably easiest to do it on a hoist there is about 30 bolts to check. And don't forget to make sure the shock centre is tight too Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/97696-rattling-rear-suspension-r33/#findComment-1776085 Share on other sites
siksII
Do they have pillowball tops? (alloy fancy looking tops) If they have pillowball tops i bet they are what is causing the noise, not any bushes etc. I know this because i had the same issue myself. NickR33
^^ took me months to diagnose the rattle coming from the rear only to find out it was the jack slightly loose in its holder... swapped suspension even checked the exhaust lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/97696-rattling-rear-suspension-r33/#findComment-1778183 Share on other sites
