I know my car isn't a skyline but I tried to start my car up this afternoon. I could hear the starter motor clicking but the crank wasn't turning over. It's just a ticking sound and nothing else.

I got the rechargable starter pack and jump started the car after the second go.

Is this just a weak battery? Or is it something else?

How old is the battery? How long since you last started the car?

The clicking sound is the solenoid engaging the pinion of the starter motor onto the flywheel. At the same time. it connects the circuit to spin the starter motor. The starter motor draws a LOT of current / voltage. If the battery is low, it draws so much that the solenoid can't hold, and the circuit disconnects.

It sounds like it could be the battery, as I has the same problems.....

I'd find that when it was dying, you'd hear a couple of clicks, and the dash lights would dim, or go out...

Add a jumpstarter (battery etc) and she'd start fine...

After checking my battery, some japanese battery >4 years old, 4 cells were indicating bad...

Went and got a new batt with fitting for $100.(Higher capacity too)

The Batt I got was a MF55B24L - It didn't fit the battery tray as it is larger (I wanted bigger) - But bolts in quite nicley.

I've had the car since Feb this year and looking at the battery it looks rather old. Connectors look find and there is no corrosion though.

Ill get another battery and hoprfully that'll be the end of that. Thanks all who replied!

if the battery doesnt charge up ur alternator isnt working porperly...

This is incorrect. The alternator can still put out a good voltage but the chemical reaction in the battery does not occur, therefore it does not charge. If he can jump start it and the car continues to run, that is usually a good sign that the alt is working fine as it is actually keeping the car running...not the battery.
