Doing Rebuild, Taper Plugs (came With Core Plugs)

hey guys i got my rebuild underway finally, and ive installed all the 12 big core plugs, 7 medium size ones. (thats only the block) and ive got 2 "taper plugs" that i got from nissan at the same time which im unsure where they go and what they are for?

heres a pic of em and the part no.

they look like the lugs that go in the rear of the motor for the gearbox to bolt onto or something, but they are smaller and shorter.

any ideas guys?

They're the main oil gallery plugs which are at the front and rear of the block on the same 'side' as the oil filter and approx at the same height above the sump line. AFAIC if your doing a 'proper' rebuild the old plugs should be removed so that the oil gallery can be cleaned completely. Personally I replace the factory plugs with screwed taper thread plugs to make things easier in the future....getting the old taper plugs out can be a chore, although once you've got one out you can drive the other one out using a long, thin steel rod.

yer mine that got supplied from the machinist are threaded so ill use them. but what about the single one in the packet? where does it go?

Ahhh....should have looked more closely. The small one looks like one of the plugs used for the oil galleries in some Nissan heads, although I thought there was more than one (I say 'some' because I know that L-series heads do, but I've also seen small ball-bearings used in late model heads - they are a mongrel to get out). Off-hand I can't think of anywhere in the block that one of these is used
