Hi all, after comming last in the xmas cruise and comming home etc...

I noticed the car has a noise comming from the engine bay.

Sounds like its comming from the engine? Sounds like pinging/knocking?

Anyways im not sure whats the go here. :P

All the dials and everything seems normal, ie when i accelerate, stop and etc the car "seems" the same as before. Just that when Im out of the car, I can hear the noise comming from the bonet. This is at idle.

Ive recently changed the use of petrol from BP Ultimate (Due to shortage) to Optimax. Using 2nd tank of Optimax. Also ive changed oils from Mobil 1 to Motul 4100.

:O:P

Any tips/advice?

PS. Taking to mechanic tommorrow

Im pretty certain I didnt over-rev. Max probably 6.5-6.7.

Dont think it knocked or pinged (if i understand the terms correctly).

wilchy said it maybe the lifters?

Will try to start the car when it gets cooler.

Note: I did have the car pretty much running constantly from like 1:30PM (when duncan called me and we were at Tahmoor KFC getting a feed :O).

To the time I arrived at the meet, which was like err 5pm? LOL. I was really late. As Wollongong was a nice cruise to go bymyself hehe

it will be quite hard to assess what could be wrong without any more detailed info. Any idea where the noise is coming from? Top end, bottom end? Definitely from engine and not gearbox? is it a loud clicking or knocking, is it constant or does it increase with revs?

It doesnt loose power, seems the same as before.

Noise comes from the top end I think. Though Im not too sure exactly. As I was/am too tired to check properly.

I can hear it when idling, so hopefully its not knocking and that its just the lifters, which hopefully will be ok when car has cooled down i think.

Thanks wilchy and others... will go check it out in a bit when the car has cooled down.

...it's going, "tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick" at idle yeah?

yep!

And I cannot hear anything when im in the seat, only when Im outside and around the car.

This annoying me..

i get the same.. and yeh its normal as far as i know.. but i did have a another knocking noise the other day.. turned out that my strut bar was vibrating on another bracket and all i had to do was ajust the strat bay up a little so it didnt touch

cool

makes me feel a little bit better

i would say it's due to you switching oils. motul 4100 is not the best oil. from memory 4100 is 10W40 whereas mobil 1 is 5W50. at high temp the motul will be a lot thinner which is possibly giving some more lifter noise than you heard before.

Can you hear it more after warm up , fairly quiet you first start it then gets noisier when it gets hot ?Are you sure its not coming from the bottom of the engine ?

when its cold i it is not that loud.

siksII had a look at the car and said it maybe the lifters...

Then I dashed to my mechanic dude (very helpfull) said its not the lifters (since it doesnt sound like a high tick sound) it was comming from the front of the engine part where tha cam cover is.

Anyways he said he will have a look at it after work. :D He said it maybe bearings loose or 90% in the cam cover part.

Will update on the situation.

UPDATE: Car seems cooled now..

Started car and noted noise is comming from the thingy at the back of the plenum. and the thingy near the camcover to the left.

See circles..

The above seems to be the normal ticking of the injectors, thats normal (i reckon) so yea..

seems like its comming from the black part of the front of engine. (where u normall stick a 100km timming belt sticker).

And my timming belt has been changed about 6 months ago, so its not that.
